Helicopter Autopilot?
So i don't know much about planes or helicopters but i figured out how to use autopilot on most of the aircraft i have.

However i have not been able to figure out how to set autopilot on any of the helicopters or if you can.

When i fly around in a helicopter i mostly use the default EH 101 however i can't get it to fly forward hands free which would be nice since i don't have a joystick but have a Xbox 360 controller for PC which is very sensitive trying to fly a helicopter with.

I tried looking for a video on how to set it or if it had autopilot which turned up empty i tried to google it and came up with this:

This console program connects to FSX via SimConnect, and provides a three-axis autopilot controlling the cyclic and rudder. Note: You may need to install the Microsoft .NET Framework for your operating system to run this program. By Cedric Ma.

Autopilot functions can be toggled on/off via the Landing Gear event.

There are two submodes that can be toggled via the period (".") key on the keyboard (not keypad):

Hover Mode (default).
Forward Mode is similar to auto-hover except that the pitch angle is adjustable via the user's joystick.

Except as i said i don't have a joystick and i don't understand what to do to make it work without one not that i would if i had one.

I have looked in the ingame control menu and did not find autopilot controls for helicopters.

I'm a DOT private rotor wing pilot. I am not aware of an AP for rotorcraft. As the thread has said ...auto hover and trim yeah ...but in real life I've never had them. I've been plenty busy in flight maintaining controled flight in 4D, up, down, left, right, forward, backwards or hover, as well as ATC, Nav, weather, you learn to work one handed ... I love flying rotorcraft both in sims and real life ...real life helo time is $$$$$$$!! and anything but cost effective for long flights. A joystick is the way BTW. I've seen way elobrate set-ups for sim helicopters. Good luck and keep flying.
If i had a joystick i would have a easier time flying rotor wing as well as fixed wing

I guess this is the one thing that has kept me way from helos. I need to be able to take my hand off the controls. I cant sit here for hours having to consantly control the stick. Auto pilot is needed for most of the flights I do which can last a few hours or more.
Actually that's what's cool about flying helicopters since it's so realistic. If you ever actually flown one in real life you know they are noisy, vibrate a lot and take a physical toll on your body quick! They make flying a Cessna look like a walk in the park!
But yeah as far as FSX goes do yourself a favor and get a real heavyduty joystick like this it makes it so much more realistic and easier to pass all the missions in the game! At least I know mine did it's built like a tank so you can really feel it when you fly!

I finally remembered and tracked down the helicopter autopilot I was thinking of:

http://www.avsim.com/pages/1106/FSPilot/FSPilot.htm

It's called FSPilot. It is or was shareware, i have no idea if it's a thing anymore. However, if you really want it, AVSIM should be able to help you find it.
