BUT DX9 graphics mode support has been deprecated (dropped) by Microsoft by default in both Windows 10 and 11 and it now has to be re-instated if you intend on using FSX's DX9 (default) graphics mode . Run DXSetup.exe to check and re-instate DX9 support into the Windows 10 and or 11 OS. Don't be afraid to run DXSetup.exe, it will check and install DX9 only if it's not installed or it will tell you it's already installed and didn't need to be. Steam has placed the correct DXSetup.exe in the "Steamworks Shared" directory on our LOCAL hard drives for us at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSetup.EXE
The symptom if you don't have DX9 support installed is...Sound but only a black screen when the flight starts. It's actually running but you can't see it.
You need to deal with extra permissions issues of Windows 10 (WFPS), or you will have all sorts of issues after installing FSX. To be sure you have the proper permissions during installation of FSX onto Windows 10 or 11 and that you have a successful install my guide can help:

Running dxdiag my windows 7 PC is running direct x 11
Regards
Rhys
DXdiag is showing you the Maximum your Hardware/driver reports that it can do. FSX will still only use DX9 or DX10, it is NOT capable of using DX11.
Just because Dxdiag says your system hardware/driver can utilize up to DX11 and verifies that its DX11 libraries do exist, doesn't mean all software utilizes DX11. Nor does it mean that the older Direct X libraries are still installed. As I said, DX9 libraries really do no longer come with Windows by default but can be installed. In fact the DX9 libraries Have to be installed into the OS with DXSetup.exe or you will just see a black screen when you click FLY.

Inexpensive, Steve is responsive to issues...still.
Testing fsx se and sling loads on another pc running w10 and things are working.
I have Steve's dx fix on my main flightsim win7 machine so looking forward to see what the fix does on the sim computer when I install windows 10, Time to rip of the bandage
Cheers
Rhys
Took the plunge, got the pc back today after win 10 update and everything is working.
Had open shell installed as well which is great.
