It's a good overview of what FSX Steam Edition is, but I'd take it with grain of skepticism. First, the article is circa 2015 with very light touch ups since. I don't see a significant update to the content of the article since the November 2020 inclusion of the new MSFS. Even the verdict seems to be unchanged from 2015 when it was written for the FSX DVD crowd.

I enjoy FSX and there are still features in I prefer to the new MSFS. That said, the question is, "Is it worth buying for $5?" I believe it is. FSX only takes up about 11 GB of hard drive space, is easy to learn, and doesn't need a high speed unlimited data internet connection to fly. It's a basic flight simulator that delivers a lot of depth and entertainment. However, some of the necessary framework to make FSX:SE run is no longer supported by Microsoft and may not be included in current Windows OS builds.

I hope microsoft flight simulator x steam edition is 7 years old. should we delist it after winter sale 2022 is over?

Don't be ageist. :steammocking:

How about:
1. Permanently list FSX at its current sale price.
2. Remove most or all of the "DLC" listed. It's all third-party and available elsewhere.
3. Provide patches that restore legacy OS files.
3. Open a Discussion forum on Steam for the "MSFS 40th Anniversary Edition."

FSX is still a valid simulator. I see it as an economical alternative to the new MSFS. I've also had an easier time learning fundamental concepts in FSX than in the new MSFS, thanks to tutorials like the Doofer911 YouTube series.

I think FSX is great! I don't have the computer power or memory to run MSFS. I love FSX!

FSX is pretty nice.

The graphics are not the best, but they're fine. FSX having lower quality graphics can be a positive for people with weaker PCs and slower internet (higher quality graphics can be much larger). FSX can also be played offline entirely, and that includes flying globally.

For the $5 I paid while it's on sale, there's a ton of content.

Now all I need is a Top Gun Maverick livery for my F/A 18! lol
I already made a simple flight plan for the missions.
I don't have any aircraft carriers yet, so taking off from an airport near the ocean will have to do. Below are the airport codes for anyone who wants them. :)
They'll put you in the vicinity of the filming locations of the movie.

KBAB - KTVL - KRNO (Training)

KHQM - 4S6 - TCM (Mission)

(I don't have any aircraft carriers yet, so taking off from an airport near the ocean will have to do.)

Download AI carriers. Its a great freeware addon that will allow you to place an aircraft carrier plus other navel ship any where in fsx you like.
I use it to set up helicopter sling loads

Here is the download links
First link is for the java version second link is for the .net version.
I'm using the .net version as I could not seem to get the java version to work
