Login to Play FSX?
Just joined Steam and just downloaded FSX yesterday. It appears that every time I want to play FSX I have to login to Steam first. Is there some setting I need to change? I expected that FSX would be a stand-alone game on my computer once I downloaded it. Seems odd I have to log into Steam before I can play it.

You can double click on FSX SE icon on your desktop but it will still be launching steam. Though, you can choose to play offline but as far as I know no way to avoid steam to run.

Same situation here, started 2 days ago. Upon installation (I am new to Steam) I got a steam and Microsoft Flight Sim X icon. When I double click the MS icon it loads Fsx up a bit quicker than going thru steam BUT some steam functions including overlay is readily available this way so I think either way steam has made it so steam loads to some extent. This is my un-educated observation.

Steam policy requires that an enabled user can use the game.
Otherwise, the games could be copied and used too easily from PC to PC with no control.
That's why running a Steam game will require a user to login before playing, so that Steam can check whether this user is authorized to use the game.

OK, thanks for the input guys. WWA3463, what you stated is kind of what I figured. A minor annoyance, but no big deal. I just hope that Steam doesn't go away one day and I am left with a sim that no longer runs. I do have an older FSX Deluxe DVD edition I could use, but from what I have read the Steam version is better.

You don't need to log in everytime. Just make steam start when windows loads, then go to library and launch the game. Steam just makes everything easier.
By the way WWA3463 is wrong. Steam doesn't decide this, it's completely up to developers. There're games on steam which can be launched without steam. Developers decide this.
And if one wants he can easily pirate this game anyway, so there's no point for DRM.

Thanks for the precision, so here DTG and not Steam decided this, and yes, I always leave the client start at windows boot and stay in the task tray, that's much easier.

BTW, I don't know if the game has DRM files, but I noticed that most of its DLCs have a bunch of files encrypted, that would make them unusable on a FSX box (unless hacking those of course, don't know how, but maybe)

Welcome to Steam. Read the user agreement and you will understand why steam auto runs. If you run steam when windows loads, you are still logging in. Kos is incorrect, Valve dictates what happens on Steam not other developers. Happy flights!
