i bought a new high end laptop having gtx 970m 6GB , which is very good for all games, and still get 40 fps on all addons.
FSX is strict on these things.
If you want another simulator then buy P3D or Xplane
You have lots of options.
Trust me, I have played worse programmed games than FSX. Just be realistic with your expectations and you are dealing with a ten-year-old game. As Enigmatic said Prepar3D is a fixed version of FSX (Lockheed Martin purchased the rights to modify FSX, including using DirectX 11 graphics) but it is still a 32 bit simulator and had all the "entertainment" aspects and real-time weather removed.
DTG has the rights to release a new Flight Simulator using Microsoft's FS code base (not FSX, that is, FS 10, which belongs to Lockheed Martin now). Dovetail Flight School is now out but the graphics need improving and it is still in the bug squashing stage. Even so, it is 64 bit and DirectX 11. Dovetail Flight Simulator is supposed to come out in December, but both flight simulators mentioned in this paragraph are not designed to be compatible with FSX add ons.
X-Plane 10 is an entirely different simulator built from scratch and has no Microsoft Flight Simulator programming in it.
After FSCon, I am interested in XP11 with the integrated changes from XP10. Other than that, I'm not getting suckered into paying for every P3D "academic license" iteration. Too much invested in FSX to be jumping ship to another GA sim platform (exclusive of XP).
I truly know that DTG can only deal with FSX the Steam Edition through Steam distribution and not deal with add ons from third party developers. I think that the time has come for all heads to get together (3rd party developers and Microsoft/DTG) to largely improve the simulator so that no technical difficulties arise in the future. Even I only just happened to descend over southern England in the game for Luton airport and it decided to crash to desktop after flying so long over from the south of France tonight. It definitely has issues and not fit for use. Sorry, but it is the truth! Even if the simulator is 10 years old, I would have thought DTG improved it and updated the software? Also if the new Dovetail Flight Simulator is out in December and not able to work with third party add ons available for FSX, then I have wasted money purchasing these add ons all in all. But I await the next flight sim - if it is just as good with regards to flying aircraft easily like in FSX! Though, it would be more worthwhile to have Google Earth imagery updated in the sim if it was possible and developers working through Steam to make good scenery. The basic default scenery in FSX is dull and boring and about time that developers all got together and add in scenery for realism through the Steam cloud.Though, one can only dream at this moment in time.
Uh huh . . . that's going to happen . . .
I hear the Global Conference for the Standardization and Future Development of FSX / FSX:SE is going to take place any day now. News conference is scheduled for broadcast on all the major networks next week . . .
Hahhaha. Cute.
What would be pretty cool is, and someone else mentioned this, a MMORPG based on various transport sims. Trucks, planes, goats, what have you. :)
Mark44, download the X-Plane demo and give it another try. The latest release, X-Plane 10.50 is out and it's pretty nice. The User Interface is still a bit strange, but it really isn't that difficult to get used to if yo have a bit of patience. The upcoming X-Plane 11 has a completely redisigned User Interface that's still intuitive and detailed, but much easier to use.
FSX is still my favorite, though. :-)
Mt Stupidity has a new peak.
Never had any OOM errors, no CTDs, but I have done the chasing frames per sec & tweaking this, tweaking that, tweaking the other for many hours & days :)
For software that is 10 years old it hasn't done bad, its still going strong & 3rd parties still develop software & hardware for it.
How many other 10yr old games can this be said for ?
I don't try and run it with the settings too high for my system either. I almost never get any faults or crashes by not messing with it too much.
Google Earth images are way more clearer than the add on sceneries that are already available for FSX. I don't expect it as accurate due to it being a simulator. Xplane is 100% more sophisticated than FSX. Though FSX is very good at crashing or having technical trouble, this is my main point here. I have flown a plane in real life, at my local airport for a birthday treat a few years back and is just as realistic as flying one in FSX -Though X PLANE has aircraft that are impossible to fly. I don't have any plans whatsoever to try it out again.
