Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

If I have FSX Gold edition on disc, can I play online with other steam users? Will the game work the same way as the steam edtion
Hi,
I have the Microsoft Flight Sim x gold edition, and I've noticed that the game is on steam as well. Now, since I am an owner of the disc version, I am not quite sure if my disc version will work for multiplayer as well. If I have it installed on my computer, and steam is on my computer as well, will it work for online gameplay? Will I be able to play with other steam users? Also, is there a code I can get from the disc game where I could get it on here for free? But I'd really like to know if my disc game would be able to run online, to be compatible with other steam players.
Thanks,
Ojust

You can use FSOpen, FSHost/Spy, FSCloud FSInn, JoinFS, and one or two others that I don't remember offhand. I've used all of them to fly FSX Gold online on my laptop that has both FSX Gold and FSX:SE installed on the same drive, no issues.

As Apu says, but what you can't do is play in-built multiplayer with Steam users playing in-built multiplayer. That's because Steam version has a working in-built online system but disc version does not.

No great loss as there are much better online environments available.

If you have the disk version of Flight Sim gold is there any reason to get the steam version?

Multiplayer is fixed and it runs a little bit better in terms of bugs/crashes etc. Also the inevitable re-installation and file error checking with Steam is very welcome and easier - otherwise it's FSX Gold version. Some people get slightly better FPS also.

Make the question more obvious next time.
