Low FPS (5-7 FPS) in FSX:SE Help
Ever since this week my FSX has been running at terrible FPS, avergaging 5-7 FPS. Previously my FSX ran at 10-15 FPS. Both times with different FPS averages, my FSX settings have remained the same. When I noticed the sharp FPS drop this week, I decreased my AI traffic, I lowered my graphical settings, lowered scenery settings, and I STILL got 5-7 FPS. No matter what I do to my FSX it's getting only 7 FPS maybe even 8 max. I'm really confused. I checked task manager, and it's primarily FSX and the Steam clients taking most of the usage, but I can't end either because they are intertwined. All other processes are windows procecess that I need to run windows 7 properly. Any suggestions what the heck is going on with my FSX? This is the worst I've ever seen my FSX perform, even low settings.

What do you do to keep your PC running smoothly? Try running those apps to help clean or optimize your PC. It has helped me a few times.

Also, what are your PC Specs?

Ok a bit of an update, yes at very low settings my FPS does improve, and at the minimum settings I got as high as 44 FPS (OMG it was smooth as butter). I re-tweeked my FSX settings this morning and by noon I got my FSX to look pretty good, getting as high as 20 FPS, but around the more populated areas I get 10-15 FPS. Strangely though at my home airport KAWO and the Seattle area I get only 6 FPS. Even with no AI I still had 6 FPS in those areas.

FYI I'm running a 2009 Gateway dx4831-01e office PC with Windows 7. Also I don't think I have a graphics card, I think the graphics are run through the CPU on my PC, which I'm aware is one of the factors to why I don't get as high FPS as others. Also my PC has 918 GB of storage.

My main complaint is that last week my FPS was great, but this week it just dipped for some reason. I mean, after my re-tweek of my FSX I got good settings again, but I'm still very confused why it happened in the first place.

welcome to the world of Computers. Who knows. Any number of things can cause a problem and you make no changes, just reboot the PC and all is right again.

But not having a dedicated Graphics Card may certainly be an issue.

Could be your virus protector. My virus protector was keeping mine from launching it used up so much cpu. Open your task manager and see what's running.

Same thing for me this morning and I've made no changes to anything. I flew a very complex aircraft last night beautifully and this morning I flew a very old simple aircraft over low detailed scenery and it micro-stuttered the whole time. I've never had a problem until this morning. What gives?

Ok, again this morning, my FPS suffered again, so back to FSX re-tweeking I went. Want to know what I found out? The whole time, when ever I had light bloom/ lens flare enabled, it dropped my FPS by 2-5 FPS drop. I disabled those two, and I immediately got 10-15 FPS again. This whole time it was those two things. I also lowered my scenery settings a bit to give my PC a break.

To the above poster, try turning off light bloom and lens flare in your settings. That probably gives a good performance hit.

And regarding my PC, I found out today that my Gateway DX4831-10e only comes available with an Intel i3. Other DX4831 models came with the option of i5 or i7, but my -10e model PC can only have an i3 in it, nothing else. This means NO graphics card for me. :(

Oh well I'll just wait until I get my first job and probably get an MSI or Alienware gaming laptop (portable FSX everywhere I go :) ).

Just finished flying (albiet a different aircraft) and everything was perfectly smooth and consitently high FPS even over the dense metropoli. Hopefully it was an isolated incident for me. Happy now.

Thats good. I kinda fixed my issue as well. However I have some aircraft that do hit the frames a bit but not much. I also added new textures to my FSX last night and this morning (new sky textures, TEP V.1 and V.2). FPS is still great for me! Just can't have light bloom or lends flare on.

Those and auto/aircraft traffic will slow you down.
