How to use Active Sky
I have the Active Sky add-on and it appears to be working great. However, when I set up the Free Flight in the main FSX screen, there are still only the old options for real weather static and real weather every 15 minutes from the now defunct Jeppesen. Is there a way to know that the simulator is linked to Active Sky with updates?

Endicott, ASN does NOT remove the default weather settings. That is why you still see real-time weather. Only Microsoft can legally change those options. Just pick Active Sky theme or even Clear Weather to eliminate all FSX-created weather. Run AS (either ASN or AS2016) and the downloaded and generated weather will be injected in your sim.

Active Sky Next , sold by FSX STEAM?? Would suggest Active Sky 2016 , positive applications.

I am never quite sure what the options under weather are telling me, but as long as I am getting Active Sky weather I don't care.

If the weather outside the plane matches the weather in the Active Sky map and you can get the ATIS information on 122.0 that matches what you see, then Active Sky is working.

When you run Active Sky it appears to be automatic that the sim uses that weather no matter what the weather options set themselves to. I wouldn't recommend changing the weather options in that case.

ASN4, if that's what we are referring to here, uses an active web connection, you don't have to do anything within the sim and it will automatically update the weather conditions in real time.

I'm using this with P3D v4.4 and you do have to start the main program from the desktop shortcut at the beginning of each session if you want real weather conditions, then you can minimize it and let it run in the background from the taskbar.

There may be a way to launch it automatically when you start the sim, by changing the settings within ASN4 when it's running, but I have chosen not to do that because there are times when I may want little or no weather for when i'm testing new aircraft or sceneries etc...

Thanks 3 Wire. I always start ASN before the sim so I can have a quick look at the weather map before flying.

If I am starting from a saved flight that had ASN running at the time I saved it, the previous weather from ASN is still active, at least in the local area, even without ASN running.

If I need standard conditions for a flight test or something I leave ASN off and set the weather manually.

Will ASN override online multiplayer weather settings for the individual user?

I just tested it out of curiosity. Yes it does.
