Switching FSX to 64 bit
Hello, Would it be possible to convert FSX to 64 bit for us avoid VAS memory problems as well as switching to DX11 and DX12. So we could wait because for the moment FSW does not have all the FSX functionality, it will allow you for a fee to boost your sales.
Greetings.

That wou;dn't be possible for several reasons, Dovetail don't have permission from Microsoft to make those kind of changes to FSX and even if they did, and it would be an easy thing to do, changing FSX to 64bit will break all the add ons available for it

Thank you for your answer, your arguments are legitimate especially for the addons, but I wait for the answer of Dovetail. It is possible to keep a part in 32 bit precisely for the complements.
Dominique.

Dovetail's answer to this is FSW. They've said from the start that they won't/can't make significant changes to FSX

If they want to lose money it's their problems.

They are not allowed to make changes to FSX except insofar as to optimise it for Steam and to replace the old Gamespy for mutiplayer. And in any case who would want to do so commercially for a game which is more than a decade old?

Why do you think they will lose money? They have brought what is a niche product to a market which has 150 million account holders; whilst they will clearly only attact a small percentage that is a huge potential. And they will also get a percentage of sales in respect of Steam DLC; you only need to look at their Train Sim to see how it is likely to go.

Companies like DTG do their sums well in advance to make sure they can make a decent profit. Otherwise they wouldn't be here in the first place.

I have not heard of many companies that want to switch to DX-12 yet. Mostly because DX-12 is only supported by Win 10 and by switching to it, they would lose potential sales from anyone still running Win 7 - 8.1. The Flight Sim market is already small enough and if I'm not mistaken, most simmers are still using Win 7, me included.

Truth is FSW is struggling pretty badly, not so far from zero users (15) at lowest. FSX 64 bit had been a huge success no doubt, Just look at its popularity despite a bunch of newer 64 bit sims.

I agree. I would love to see FSX go 64 bit but I'm not going to wait for something that won't happen anytime soon, if at all. If you want a 64 bit Flight Sim, that is what FSW is and as it is still being developed, it is getting better.

I'm using DirectX12 and occasionally I can still have lag problems as well as some terrain overlays and bluriness. As for 64 bit, probably best to wait for any new version or update overhaul.. if it ain't broke don't try and fix it.

It's a DX9/10 sim. It doesn't use DX12, none of the flight sims do.

Prepar3D v4.2 is 64-bit and uses DirectX 11. Works real nice and most planes and sceneries work on it now (v4 came out last June, so ppl have had time to).

I found that using my HD TV screen as primary monitor stopped a lot of problems, maybe because of its refresh rate.

This afternoon I had a frame rate of 240 fps and this evening 120 fps.

Since the Video Card is what determins the Frame Rate, I fail to see how using a TV (even with HDMI) will do anything for Frame Rate. Unless you had to drop the resolution down, that would increase Frame Rate on a larger screen but not a solution I'd want.

Yet you boasted frame rates on Feb 22 as high as 240, implying that it was due to you using your HD TV. I fail to see how that was possible. I do recall in another thread that you suggested to us to use an HD TV with HDMI to get even higher Frame Rates.

So, my question to you is, how does changing your display device change your frame rate if you are not changing your resolution?

The bottom line.

The television is half Greek and half Latin Tele+Vision, as such it is regarded as "The Idiot Box".

The people you see on your television you would never invite into your own home.

Here idiots watch other idiots performing as idiots.

It all stems from having an I.D. in the first place.

On this planet your true status is that you, and everyone else, is only a number.

Pin number, house number, telephone number, vehicle registration number, number of this that and the other.

Now. On the first use of the TV the FPS showed 240 since then it has progressively dropped.

I am told that it has something to do with the internal memory.

Remember that you are only a piece of meat and that most of your body is made up of water.

Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink.

A 'womb-man' [woman ]may be referred to as a chick/chicken/bird, etc. including a cow as she gives milk.

All that is why I consider this created World to be totally unsuitable.

To be the Son Of a Female doG which you undoubtedly are is simply not good enough.

Know of any ROMAN Cat-Holic-c not living IN Rome itself?

You simply can't have your p-u-s-s-y and eat I.T.

And never say HELL ------- 0 [zero] because we are all on a hiding to nothing.

You are only here to Toil ....... ET

changing your computer monitor to an hdtv running at the same resolution will not give any gains to FSX performance.

you can call a woman a 'cow' because she "gives milk"? call a poster to this forum a "son of a female dog" for, for what? Because you want everyone to ignore you?

I feel a little bad reporting you because it's becoming clear that you are quite unwell.

Morag is spot on. FSX: Steam Edition is not our IP, we just distribute it on Steam
