Freeware C-47 Skytrain (v 3.14b)

That will be easier to find if you search for Manfred Jahn C-47. This might be the best freeware aircraft available.

Berlin Air Lift vintage?

That's the one.

The C-47 was the DC-3 manufactured or converted for military use. They had cargo doors and reinforced flooring and an "astrodome" for a navigator to shoot star sights for celestial navigation. After the war these went back into civilian service. Some are still in commercial service today.

You should be able to find liveries for just about any DC-3/C-47 for this version of the aircraft.

The Manfred Jahn/Jan Visser version is gorgeous and has one of the best virtual cockpits I've seen anywhere. There is an interactive voice checklist. Since it is freeware, I have suggested people check it out even if they don't care to fly it just to see what is possible in FSX.

PRO-ATC/X - Professional Air Traffic Control for
Flight Simulator X,FSX/SE and Prepar3D
Last update released 24 May 2018! (v1.9.2.5)
"Completely reworked ATC""Automatic Route Calculation""New Sounds""SIDs and STARs""12 different checklists""Copilot Support""Missed Approaches"
"Copilot Support"

Why PRO-ATC/X at all?
The way Flight Simulator-X or FSX/SE or P3D controls traffic is more or less superficial. It may be sufficient for beginners, but once you get a shade more familiar with it, you'll probably notice soon that a lot of things are missing. Things like copilot support, missed approaches, departure and arrival procedures (SIDs/STARs)...

Flying online is better, but here you'll be on your own once there is no controller in charge for a certain frequency - and our experience is, that many frequencies are not supervised during a flight. There must be a better way...

PRO-ATC/X replaces Air Traffic Control in FSX, FSX/SE and P3D in an impressive manner. The implemented Flight Planner is able to calculate a whole route simply by defining departure and destination airports while editing a calculated route is still possible. PRO-ATC/X is designed to control aircraft flying under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). So if you prefer "The Big Ones", you are for sure surfing on the right site.

How flights are controlled...
With PRO-ATC/X all steps of professional IFR flights are processed. Twelve (12) checklists can be processed in teamwork with your virtual copilot. Standard instrument departure and arrival procedures are supported. Lower and upper airways are also taken into account.

Copilot support
During the whole flight you'll be supported by your virtual copilot. Depending on the options you have set, the copilot is able to setup the autopilot, gear, flaps, speed brakes, lights as well as the nav-radio and the com-radio. With all copilot options enabled, there isn't much left for you to do - ideal for beginners! On the other hand, you can setup the options in a more realistic manner so that both the pilot and copilot share the workload or should you want to, delegate all cockpit tasks to the pilot! Not really a good idea.

Sound
For the communication between pilot/copilot and controllers or between pilot and copilot, we have recorded sound files specifically for PRO-ATC/X. The result is a highly realistic pronunciation. You can find further information under the 'Sound tab of our web page' if you are interested in recording an additional voice set.

Background ATC
Additionally, authentic sound files can be played as background ATC which are frequency and coordinate dependent. That means you'll hear ATC originating from the country you are flying over, the radar sector you are in or even the airport you are taking-off from or landing at. Many sound files have been implemented and numerous additional recordings are available on different web sites for free. You can make use of the wizard we have integrated to configure and enhance the sophistication of background ATC.

AI - Automatically generated traffic by FSX, FSX/SE, P3D
The actual traffic (AI) continues to be controlled by the flight simulation but is detected and considered and even changed by PRO-ATC/X. That means you won't get a clearance for takeoff when an aircraft is on final approach or still on the runway. It will even be controlled to avoid collisions with your aircraft when airborne.

We are sure you'll enjoy the new features implemented by PRO-ATC/X. Have safe and good landings wherever you choose to fly!

amazing software!

That looks good, Jaxs. A link would have been nice.

During takeoffs and landings, not on autopilot, the Pilot Flying has only one job: fly the plane. He keeps his eyes outside the cockpit. He makes decisions such as when to raise the landing gear and change flap settings, but the Pilot Not Flying does everything else. The PF and PNF terminology is used because sometimes copilots are giving the landings.

This goes so far as the PNF handling the throttles, with the PF keeping his hand over the PNF's hand on the throttle in case an instant change needs to be made. During critical landings, the PF will also monitor airspeed when it is essential to fly exactly by the numbers.

Some pilots preferred to make all the decisions, others let the copilot handle as much as possible.

When I was studying this, and in various books I've read, the plane was hand flown (not on autopilot) up to 10,000 feet on departure, no indication of how much hand flying was done on approach but landings were always hand flown. Now days so much is done on autopilot that the airlines have to encourage pilots to hand fly as much as possible, just to keep in practice.

Thanks, Harry. That's a pretty impressive feature list for people flying airliners.

This would also be very useful for people asking for flight plans. All you'd need is a departure and destination airport and this program does everything else.

Fifty Euros, about $56. I've paid more for software that does less. Unfortunately for me, I don't fly airliners. :)

Two posts above Harry gave a link to the software which has a list of planes it works with. One post above I gave the cost... which I got from Harry's link.
