Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Will this game potentially die after MFS2020 release?
I mean I guess FSX will just become the flight sim for those who have slow computers I guess. I'm sure modding will probably catch up fairly quickly too.

Is there already a confirmed price for it? I haven't seen anything about price. Please elaborate!

Take a guess?

Less than a PMDG add on aircraft.

What exactly do you mean by 'dying'?
And in any case, what's the reason to use FSX after P3Dv4?

Ha.. hah...ha.. you're funny...

But no seriously, next gen flight sim, photo real scenery, streaming graphics, Microsoft Azure.... it's HIGHLY unlikely it will cost less than a PMDG add-on. Considering a new game today costs about $80, I would say if there's a option to pay 1 fee it will be around $90. Otherwise subscription fee maybe $10-20/month.

For those that still enjoy FSX:SE but don't have a system that can run FS2020 (like me), I see no reason to give up on FSX:SE. So, no, I don't see it dying any time soon or just after the new sims release.

The only officially confirmed price for FS2020 at the moment is the monthly subscription to Xbox Gamepass which currently runs $9.99 USD a month. This was confirmed at the end of the very first trailer for FS2020 featured at E3.

Specifics on other pricing has not yet been confirmed however during the QA at last month's Renton event, the developers from Asobo and Project Directors specifically stated that this is a "sim for simmers" and verbally confirmed that they understand their audience does not want to pay a subscription.

We don't have much else to go on thus far but we do know that they are listening and understand that even though its possible to play through gamepass- not everyone will want to go that route.

I expect a retail price between the standard commercial $80 with a professional licence running $199 similar to how LHM manages P3D. It would be acceptable considering the work that goes into the project + confirmed promise of updates as Azure / Bing satalites continue to take photogrammetry of new cities and regions. The pipeline they have will push new updates for visuals and such through their streaming client which will then have those details appear in streamed or pre-cached region forms (if downloaded) in your sim.

FSX was 65 gbp plus a bit later 15 gbp for aceleration update.
This was i think nearly twelve years ago.
The work that goes into flight sims is indeed considerable but its a form of entertainment as well as a simulation for those that want it that way.
I expect Microsoft to offer the base around the same price.
Then offer DLC content at a fair price for the lifecycle of the product.
Doubt it will cost any more. Why? Xplane,DCS,IL2 and finally current fsx users, will not adopt it if its too expensive .
You'll need a good stick or yoke ,plus pedals and vr or some version of head tracking device.Thats if you dont already own these items.Microsoft know to make any money,it will have to appeal to causual xbox one and above players.
Theres no way they'll charge more than what ive stated for the base sim with a selection of built in aircraft, they messed up a flight release after FSX and will not make that mistake twice.
Enjoy your flying.

It will be 3 times better but will be also 3 times expensive : Monthly pay for the Azura stuff, you''l need faster Internet, and some top machine computing high quality on graphycs and such....But most of us don't have fast enough Internet, or can't afford heavy duty Computers
The Good Old FSX will stay the most for a long time

I don't know why some of you think MFS2020 is for the rich kids. For heavens sake it's being released on Xbox as well! They obviously want it to be open for as much people as possible but also providing a top quality flight sim. I really don't think you'll need something like a GTX 1080 or an RTX 2070 plus to run MFS2020. At most you'll need a quad core cpu and maybe gtx 1070 for ultra settings. You must realize that the map it'self is not computer or generated on your PC but is streamed.

Bottom line is that I think most people will be able to play this game, especially since it should be released for the Xbox as well. I don't know where people are getting the subscription and things like that.

Win 10 will be required to play on a PC. That much is certain. So, for those (like myself), with Win 7, MSFS2020 is not an option without upgrading the OS, at least.

I'm not surprised and I do expect to upgrade when I can afford a new PC. I will not put Win 10 on my current PC, for personal reasons.

Until that time comes, I'll stick with FSX (SE)

If FS 2020 really is as good it is seems - and (crucially for me) accessible to use (XP11 is great, but it's way too technical and user-unfriendly) then I'll happily pay an ostentatious flat fee to own it. But accessibility is key for me. I do not want to be shut out from the sim by an unreasonable technical learning curve. The test for me will be: can I, out-of-the-box, put in departure location and destination and fly, with AP and GPS, to my location without any faffing around? If yes, it's a sale. FSW offered that back in 2017 (and did it really well).

calukgr ,my thoughts exactly

If they use GPS in airliners then they will have failed flight sim users. Airliners, as far as a i know, don't have a Garmin GPS in them, it's all done by the FMC.

Even then in the FMC just put in the arrival ICAO and it works as a direct route.
