from the scenery menu give a look what corresponds to Area.001 and check the presence of that scenery folder in FSX. In my case the "Addon scenery" folder disappear from time to time, I do not know why. If this folder is missing simply create a new one with subfolders "scenery" and "texture".

The first step is to see what is in the scenery.cfg file

On my system, the file is located in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\. I suspect that it is on your system as well. Use Notepad to open it. See if the 1st 4 "Areas" look the same on yours.

If they do, Area 1 would be located in your ..\FSX\scenery\World\ folder. It should have 2 sub folders, Texture and Scenery. Make sure that they are both present and contain files.

Let us know what you find.

[General]
Title=FS9 World Scenery
Description=FS9 Scenery Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Local=Scenery\World
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

[Area.002]
Title=Default Scenery
Local=Scenery\BASE
Layer=2
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

[Area.003]
Title=0000 Base
Local=Scenery\0000
Layer=3
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

i have re-installed fsx again and it the same as before!
i think it must have started when i deleted the orbx scenery from the fsx folder first not the app.
i don't know what to do

I afraid you have to reinstall the game again, but before you have to uninstall it properly.
read here how
http://www.avsim.com/topic/480344-how-do-i-uninstall-fsx-steam-version/

Also try not to install the game into Program files (x86) folder

There can be other options, like deleting the logbook.ini at ► Libraries ► Documents ► Flight simulator X files but I did not try this.

Also you can try this (but I did not try this also)

1. Go to (C:)/ProgramData/Microsoft/FSX
2. Open Scenery.CFG

check the path corresponding to the scenery "Local=Scenery\World", may be you have to edit it something like C:\...\FSX\Scenery\World

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Local=Scenery\World
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

and save

or you can try just to delete this scenery.cfg and start FSX SE, it will rebuild it.

Do you have dual installation of FSX SE and FSX? Or did you have non-Steam FSX installed before?
