The iPad has become a key part of my sim flying. I use various apps for different types of flying:

Airtrack .... this is not cheap but it is by far the best app add-on I have tried. No matter what type of flying I do this app is always useful. Also works on xplane.

Airtrack gives you multiple functions in the one seamless package that connects the iPad through wifi to FSX. You get the full glass cockpit display for instruments with another PFD map style display with your position over terrain. These two displays can be used side by side or full page. You can also choose to display either Vatsim, IVAO, or Pilotedge online traffic on the map page

Added to that you get a comms interface page that is simply sublime in use. I can change a radio frequency and make it active in 4 secs - same with transponder and ADF.

Another page has the same input ability for autopilot functions. Altitudes can be entered in seconds, also same for IAS, vertical speed, course, heading, baro, etc - and being wireless you can control your flights from the dinner table or bathroom :-)

Another page has the FMC, and another a waypoints page. It picks up flight plans entered into FSX and display ILS codes and so on - shows legs and time remaining etc. The waypoints page can display everything around you that you choose to show - then you just click on it to get Airport info, VOR frequency etc.

All this is seamless in a package where you select soft keys at the bottom of the app to change function - and there is zero lag in this brilliant app.

Station Weather .... this is a great app if using real weather in the Sim. You add airports and it decodes the ATIS info etc, and shows current weather in a graphic form for those who like me get confused with those weather briefings. You also get runway in use and a graphic picture of the wind over the runway. I think this one is free (or possibly a few pounds)

Fltplan go (real world charts/info) ..... especially great for USA and Canada. Full of features for real info (free) .... awesome app but I had to change my default iPad store temporarily to Canadian or USA for the download - as it is not available in the UK store.

Airmate (real world flightplan/charts) ..... This has lots of airport charts for various countries. For example I recently got some Norwegian airfield charts with this. Nice planner also (Free)

IFlightPlanner (real world info and charts) .... USA mostly (free) .... superb features and like fltplan go.

RF Cockpit .... wirelessly gives you traditional Cessna or GA style six pack instruments on the iPad. I noticed slight lag with this on vertical speed, but it's pretty decent otherwise.

RF Map HD ..... displays your aircraft progress on a Google map style display. Also shows speed, alt, heading etc, ..... works very well.

VatMap .... displays vatsim info. (Free)

Flightsim utils .... FSX key commands (free)

Obscure but useful .....

PilotHandbk .... the pilot handbook of aeronautical knowledge on ipad (free)

Instrument flying handbook .... as above but Instrument specific (not free but worth it for the iPad version)

GTN trainer .... handy if you own or are thinking of buying the flight 1 GTN750. The flight1 unit is almost exactly like this. (free)

Radio Navigation simulator ..... practice VOR / NDB flying and concepts.

I should have mentioned Andre, but the 'fltplan go' app has an incredible feature where it puts your FSX aircraft right on to real aviation charts. Sectionals, airway charts and even approach charts ..... also can put the weather fronts on them if using live weather - an awesome feature in a free app.
