FSX-SE no longer compatible with Windows 10
Since September when Windows 10 Creators Update version 1703 came out and now especially since 1709 is in place I can no longer operate FSX-SE due to so many crashes and error messages that lead to crashes.

I have factory reset my MSI PC actually six times in two months, spent many dollars with my local tech shop, had three long conversations with MSI and four conversations with Microsoft.

Microsoft today has informed me that it is no longer compatible with Windows 10 since the Creators Update (now at version 1709) came out in September.

So after two months of struggling to make it work I have to surrender. Microsoft gave me two choices -
- Go back to Windows 7
or
Eliminate FSX-SE and get a compatible flight simulator.

After twenty years and much investment in MSFS I was devastated - but life does go on.
So I guess I will have to consider P3D v4.1 sooner than I was planning. I could hobble along with FSW but it is just not quite there yet.

Any thoughts from this forum would be appreciated.

I have had windows 10 for 1 year and a half. Maybe it's just HP laptops but I have never had an issue with this game. Never crashed, never had any errors. I can run the VRS superbug at 40 frames +. And that's off a 400 dollar laptop. Maybe you guys should invest in a new computer?

read the whole thread... its not the computers that are the problem, its the newest update (1709), MS has confirmed this already and are working on a fix

I updated windows 10 on my second system. I have 1709 blocked on this system. Tried FSX after the update and still have the same error. The update did not fix the issue. I still get "an unsupported operation was attempted".

Well, fingers crossed, with any luck, the MS Win 10 patch scheduled for later today will finally fix the issue!

It hasn't been release yet? Then what was the patch that got installed this morning? I just checked, it was KB4051963. How do you know it will be pushed later today? Is there somewhere I can check?

Microsoft will release a fix for the child window error in an update on December 12th. This problem was introduced in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709).

Rob McCarthy

KB4051963 was the November patch: -

You should get it via Windows Update.

(I think they release the monthly patches at 18.00 UTC which should be 18.00 GMT this time of year I think!).

Yes, update KB4054517, installed this evening, seems to solve the "child window" problem with FSX-STEAM. I've not tested it for hours, but in one hour or so the program didn't crash, and yesterday it was inmediate.

Anyone having issue with Real time weather? since the update i am getting a "no internet connection."

Update seems to solve the "cannot create child window" error for me. Only tested about 45 mins. It used to crash if I loaded the Aerosoft Airbus or connected PF3 to FSX-SE.
