FSX-SE no longer compatible with Windows 10
Since September when Windows 10 Creators Update version 1703 came out and now especially since 1709 is in place I can no longer operate FSX-SE due to so many crashes and error messages that lead to crashes.

I have factory reset my MSI PC actually six times in two months, spent many dollars with my local tech shop, had three long conversations with MSI and four conversations with Microsoft.

Microsoft today has informed me that it is no longer compatible with Windows 10 since the Creators Update (now at version 1709) came out in September.

So after two months of struggling to make it work I have to surrender. Microsoft gave me two choices -
- Go back to Windows 7
or
Eliminate FSX-SE and get a compatible flight simulator.

After twenty years and much investment in MSFS I was devastated - but life does go on.
So I guess I will have to consider P3D v4.1 sooner than I was planning. I could hobble along with FSW but it is just not quite there yet.

Any thoughts from this forum would be appreciated.

Tried renaming Logbook.BIN ?

It's in the below path typically where accountname = the Windows logon in use. Basically it is located in your "My Documents" folder.

C:\Users\ACCOUNTNAME\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\Logbook.BIN

When renamed a new Logbook.BIN will be created and if your problem is then fixed all good and well and if you'd like to try recovering the original logbook.bin database a search of these forums will lead to toolset links as issues with logbook.bin are reasonably common.

Otherwise files validation may help.

In my case I was able to recover build 1703. That restored full function to FSX-SE and other apps. It was a simple recovery procedure and took about 15 minutes.

Not having any problems with FSX SE on Windows 10 (1703). It's working perfectly.

Charlotte:

I have been an avid FSX simmer. I had laid off of it for awhile and now I'm going to get back in it.
I noticed that u didn't have any issues running your FSX on Windows10.

Right now I'm looking at investing on a desk top:

CyberPowerPC - Gamer Xtreme VR Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 1TB Hard Drive

This, or course, runs on Windows10.

Could I get your opinion?

Thanks in advance!

If your not going to 4K ress yet other games, better off buying something like this https://www.kijiji.ca/v-desktop-computers/edmonton/dell-t3500:-4-cores-8-cpu-threads-and-8-gb-ddr3-ram/1310389729?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true PCI Express 2.0 only so best Card is GTX 590 3GB, but its amazing 1080 or (1920x1200) gaming now 60 FPS all titles, and quality of construction of these dell corporate high end engineering CAD rigs are amazing, "brushed aluminum case) can plug 12 SATA drives into MOBO of this beast directly from mother board no PCI slot taken up etc. Original MSRP $4500 on these rigs now only $150, and $90 for a GTX 590 'Titan'. Save your money on that 1060, eighter go for the 1080Ti for 4K gaming or plug in the $135 1050Ti to carry you through till better (3830x2160) "4K' rigs are on market. ( next XMAS ) :steamhappy:

For FSX at (1920x1200) or 1080p the above is fantastic for the $ Budget price $250 or less. Frame rates of 24-60 know thats old school given hardwae available today. But anything over 24 FPS is easy on the eyes..we were in low framerate hell all through the 90's and most of the 2000 :steamsad: For interest Movie Theater cinema runs at 24 FPS, they are talking about increasing that to 48 FPS...It is absolutely amazing todays 14nm tech can achieve 280 FPS on 280 Hz monitors if not even higher by now? and at 3840x2160 res (4k) should be correctly refered to as 2160p :steamfacepalm: Anything over 120 FPS is overkil for now IMHO, my next build will be targeting about 90 FPS 2160p, but iam waiting for all the 8nm tech to comeout in 2018 :steamhappy:

Do have FSX running on W10 gaming laptops, but its touch and go, after every update :steamfacepalm: especially the latest one Nov 2017...Hardware is getting dated though the M1730. Believe the main issue is opcodes W10 is looking for from CPU...Forced Obsolencense like Apple and others, they dont want us running the older tech just upgrading graphics cards :poweraxe: Needs us to buy new rigs !...I am keeping all this amazing looking (on the outside) PC hardware, because we will soon be installing 8nm SmartPhone tech into our PC's that will out preform eveything we have seen todate...and quality of constructions, the cases and enclosures will not be same as years past...will be fantastic MOding opportunities :d2tidehunter:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc8mFV7TtiM&t=46s
note^ Keep all your amazing brushed aluminum cases and PC Hardware, like the high end DELL and Alienware and Customs, we will be installing 8nm tech into them soon, 3y, mobos will be the size of "smartphones" etc, and vendors will be selling the internal adaptors needed :Honored:

Hi. Have Windows 10 and found that it works fine except from the Radio and Autopilots values are not showing any more. I think it may be some upgradet fonts in Fall Creator update that is the culprint.

Hello,
Maybe that can help some:
I have FSX steam with many add-on.
Since the windows update, FSX was no longer working, it stopped after about twenty minutes.
I put FSX.exe in Windows 8 compatibility mode.
Since no problem or crash.
Cordially.
