Keyboard Rudder Control is Impossible
I've set my controls to be
A - to yaw left
D - to yaw right

The problem with this is that there is no automatic centering functionality when you release either of the rudder keys, this causes the aircraft to continue to yaw hard in either direction after key release.

I have no interest in using the joystick twist functionality, nor am I buying rudder pedals anytime soon, so I was hoping someone might have a software solution to this issue.

So, are you saying that you have a joystick with twist functionality but you just refuse to use it?

I have one, but the joystick on a desk feels so unnatural in comparison to having a heavy joystick inbetween the legs. At this point I'd rather fly arcade style with KB+M and wait to buy a really nice floor mounted joystick setup.

Num pad 5 to center rudder. Change that to your stick or between the rudder keys.

Or try this .....

Rotary, I have flown keyboard-only in FSX:SE for well over 1600 hours and I used to use the numeric keypad keys for yaw input: 0/Ins for left rudder, Enter for right rudder, and ./Del to center rudder. The yaw left/right keys have an incremental response when you press them that exponentially increases (quickly!) when you hold them. 'Automatic centering' after pressing and holding a rudder key isn't going to happen; center it yourself with whatevver key that you choose to define.

As other people have stated, use the number pad. Honestly, it is one of the most intuitive controls that I used to apply the mapping in DCS.

under control in the settings you can map a key to center control surfaces.

normally, yeah don't use a and d. The real thing is that on keyboards there are so many shortcuts to get to a view or part of the cockpit. So, really try the number pad, because there is really no shortcuts used there.
