Help with graphics please
Nothing I do seems to make fsx look any better. So far I've spent around $80 in scenery and graphical repair add-ons. I've bought the orbx northwest add-on and the dx10 fixer add-on.

Neither of these add-ons have improved the graphics. In fact they seem to have made things worse because now I'm getting a lot of flickering and artifacts.

This is very frustrating :steamsalty:

What make and model of graphics card is in your FSX computer? If you have less than 2GB GDDR RAM on your GPU your scenery improvements may be modest at best.

How did you set up your antialiasing in FSX SE? It should be set to anisotropic and checked on. When using DX10 fixer you need to make changes to your Microsoft Flight Simulator 10 profile in Nvidia Inspector. If you don't the antialiasing will look terrible.

Yea I set up the profile in Inspector. I also followed the guide on flightsim.com and changed all the parameters in the FSX config file.

Can you post a screenshot to show what you are seeing?

I have some screenshots in my profile for Pacific Northwest and other Orbx regions. Forget the airfields as some of them are additions - but does the land in yours look like mine? ..... or does yours still look like base FSX?

My system is a 6yr old gaming laptop for comparison i5 2.53ghz with 2gb Nvidia graphics.

I seem to have fixed the flickering by turning the affinitymask up to 14, but now I seem to have lost all the buildings and roads. The city terrain is now just a 2d satellite image. The only building and roads I have are at the airports.

I dunno how to post screen shots on the forums, but I uploaded 2 screen shots showing the city terrain on my profile.

Download and fly Aircraft from MS2004/FsX. You will see a major FPS improvement.

You may also try using Real Weather (static) to save from loosing memory downloading during flight.. Also don't move the Mouse around to much....Each movement bites the fps in the pants.....I'm just sayin.

Forget the DX10 fixer (and don't use that mode just now in FSX) and get it looking good without using those options first. Once you get the Orbx properly installed you will have a reference for moving over to the fixer. You might be trying to solve two problems at the same time. The Orbx will look great without DX10. So much so that I have never seen the need for it.

Check the scenery library within FSX settings. You should have the Orbx libraries at the top, then if you have them, Orbx Airports, regions, global, etc, in that order. It's all named Orbx or FTX - so is easy to find. Get all the standard FSX below this.

You also have to run with the recommended minimum FSX settings, or above - found in the Orbx scenery PDF guide. Setup your FSX using the settings and instructions in the PNW PDF. If your settings are too low you might not see a lot of the scenery properly in game. Your pc should allow you to run above the minimum settings. I can get them a bit higher than minimum on my lesser system.

Make sure everything is updated within FTX central.

Thank you!

Moving the orbix scenery to the top of the fsx library seems to have brought back all the buildings. However it still doesn't look as good as advertised.

Can you explain in a little more detail what you mean by "You also have to run with the recommended minimum FSX settings, or above - found in the Orbx scenery PDF guide"

Where do I find the orbx scenery pdf guide? I looked inside the orbix folder and didnt find it.

Also how do I verify that FTX is all up to date?

When Orbx is installed you also installed FTX Central - which is the scenery manager and updating software. If you open that it will tell you of available updates for the scenery and libraries. It usually creates a desktop shortcut for central, but if not you can start it from the Orbx folder.

In FTX central just click on the installed scenery pictures to select the user guide

Orbx recommends that the scenery complexity be set to extremely desne. Here are the recommended settings from NA Central Rockies:
Setting-- Value-- Why?
Level of detail radius-- Large-- Reduces blurring of textures.
Global texture resolution-- Max-- Displays photoreal textures best.
Mesh complexity-- 100-- Better terrain definition.
Mesh resolution-- 5m-- 5 m is required for CRM
Texture resolution-- 7 cm -- Sharpest roads and freeways.
Scenery complexity-- Extremely Dense-- How Orbx designed FTX CRM.
Autogen density-- Normal-- Best FPS vs detail.
GA AI traffic -- 16-50%-- Recommended for this scenery.
Road vehicle traffic-- 16%-- No need to set higher for FTX.

As recommended, check the documentation for the orbx scenery you have installed. Also, if you used FTX Central to install the scenery it should have put the orbx scenery at the top of the scenery listings.
