Depends , for Aircraft Payware is normally better but there are some great free Aircraft that are up to payware quality , regarding scenery ...it's the same again in that Payware would be better but ....Freeware could be easier to update using an AFCAD file editer , for example if you brought a payware version of your local Airport but then a few months down the line a new taxiway opens then you have to wait until the developer updates it but if you use a free ware airport then you can just add it in your self and be bang up to date ,I find the main Airports in FSX are quite detailed any way so the freeware option sounds a little better unless you like all the eye candy you get with a payware airport (plus the frame rate drops too) ..

So most of my Airports are Freeware

Payware's always far better graphics, but you can get some excellent freeware stuff too.

If you have a look at some of my screenshots you'll see a freeware 737 with Orbx scenary which is payware...

freeware i soppose most people on here has something from the www, i wont say what, payware better graphics and more from your pocket, i like to support the devs in their products so for me rex latitude / orbx. rex4d / and airports i would say payware for me, only because i have a big wallet from my savings.

In a nut shell, get what you want and what pleases you, better still get both, most of us on here do - and have.

Freeware : PA A32XFD-FMC v1.55. This model is very very close to a commercial plane. VC reviewed with all swithces working. Start in cold and dark. Really good product and is free.

I use all freeware, not to say that freeware is always better. I'm a little sketched at investing hundreds of dollars in a ten year old game on Steam. There are plenty of high quality freeware aircraft that should satisfy 90% of FSX users. There is good freeware scenery as well, but I think that graphics products like ORBX are much better. If I bought any software for FSX, it would be ORBX Global.

Freeware is great, but it 'usually' does not come close to the 'best' payware. There are a few examples where you could argue that point - 'World of AI' for example, and individual airports - but usually the best payware is simply better.

The main things - the best large scenery packages, cloud textures, weather engines, GPS systems and complex realistic aircraft, are all payware. That's just a fact, and a costly one - however freeware can still greatly improve FSX also.

(IN MY OPINION) The best cloud textures (better than rex) can be found on AvsimRus cant remember its name or the link though.
