Banking Camera utility
OK, I saw this utility mentioned in another thread and it was the first I've heard of it and it rasied my interest.

The link the thread provided was a link to the version release of 1.0.

Anyway it sounded interesting so I gave it a trial and found it to be a great option for FSX-SE.

Essentually it provides a more natural view when in the virtual cockpit as in when you bank left the view follows to look left in a very natural feeling way. It quite changes the immerson aspect, although it might make you feel a little on the dizzy side.

Authors page link where there is the current version 1.2 for download.

http://fsx.voidstar.co.za/

When installed and run it places a menu item into the menu bar of FSX-SE where you can choose to Exit or Pause, Ctrl/P will also pause.

Settings are via an ini file located in the Windows folder "C:\Windows\Banking Camera.ini" where you can simply set the pause key combo or the view bank angle limit.

[keyboard]
pause=Ctrl+p

[settings]
bank_limit=40

If you like it enough to have it autorun with FSX-SE it can be added to the exe.xml as shown below.

<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Banking Camera Plugin for FSX</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Path>C:\Program Files (x86)\FSX Banking Camera\Banking Camera.exe</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

The exe.xml is located in the following path.

C:\Users\[account name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\

The default icon the installer places onto the desktop doesn't have an actual icon and I've changed it so that it is a camera, but that's more a personal choice.

Cheers

Probably relates to the c++ runtimes, are they installled?

The author does provide a link to the Microsoft c++ runtimes the utility requires.

I tried that, but I already have a newer version. Thanks though.

Sounds more like your Windows installation has problems of its own...

I'll try uninstalling c++ then reinstalling. I really want this to work!

OK I got it working! I reinstalled simconnect, all 3 .msi files. Works fine now.

Happy to hear :-)

I also have the pause combo tied to a joystick button so I can freely view around when i need to without the snap to centre.

Yeah if only I just had one more button on my stick. Always need just one more button.

Anyway thanks for posting this, never would have found it on my own. Seems like this should be way more popular than it is. Works Great!

Ah yes, you probably saw that link when I was giving that guy a bunch of freeware addons that he listed out.

Banking Camera is a decent add-on, but far from perfect. The install is a pain, but once you get it working it does do the job. I personally found it when looking for a free alternative to EZDOK since I couldn't afford it, the add-on did the job and I do use it from time to time. I personally now just stick with the normal camera, or use a 'hackulous' and do my FSX in VR. :)
