I just spent the last 4 days trying to complete this mission. I have a little aviation history (working at airport line service between 04 and 08, and also for the past year to present), so I had a few sources there to ask about what I had to do to complete this level. It is definitely a very difficult one for the "easy" category. I'm even wondering if it was misplaced there. I was curious so I Googled "Flight Simulator X Resort Supply Mission" and this is what came up first.
The first 3 times I flew this mission, I crashed on take-off from the brutal crosswind that requires full left rudder on takeoff. And you have to ease into it. Since the wind comes from the right, it pushes the tail to the left and points you into the wind. Start your movement with rudder centered and as you pick up speed, slowly add rudder until it hits full left rudder. It takes a few times to really get the feel of it.
Try your best to listen to your co-pilot, he will give you very specific directions on this mission. After takeoff, follow the river without gaining too much altitude. You don't need to fly super low, but don't force your plane to take the high route either. Let it fly quasi-naturally.
There is a challenging part coming up where you will encounter F-18 fighters doing their drills. Your co-pilot tells you to get really low so they fly over you, but he tells you to get down to 300 feet. This means you are flying pretty darn low to the ground, and since it is uneven ground, it feels extra sketchy. Just keep it this way until he says we can climb back up to normal altitude.
Sometime after this, your co-pilot mentions turning your de-icing boots and all. This part really stumped me for a while because I downloaded a hotkey list for MS Flight Simulator X and I saw no hotkeys for toggling boots and other de-icing equipment. So I figured it was something I didn't have to worry about and my co-pilot would handle it, but in fact, it greatly affects your aircraft as you fly on - as in it will not handle well, not climb well, etc... In fact, when I finally completed this mission, I made sure to turn all the de-icing equipment on at the beginning of the level. It's not easy to find the switches for it either. They are small switches behind the yoke. The only way to find them is to use the different cockpit views available to you, switching between the view categories with the S key and the specific views with the A key. At the very beginning of the level (after you start up your engines), you should just pause it and figure this part out, that way you don't run into any of this problem if you happen to fly through icing conditions before he even mentions it.
Then you have to land at an airport. You are going to enter left traffic - meaning left traffic to the active runway. Make sure to study a heading compass for runway directions. Runway 18 = 180 degrees on the heading compass. Runway 27 = 270 degrees. Runway 5 = 50 degrees... and so on. So when you fly by the airport, it will be on your left. You're going to to a left turn into final and land upwind on the active runway, then pull up next to the truck (just don't face directly into it) and come to a stop and it will automatically deliver your first box of apples.
Then take off on the same active runway, fly to the next airport. You will enter right traffic and this will be a tricky landing since you have to do a tight turn in between mountain sides while trying to slow down. As your co-pilot says, use flaps incrementally. Then taxi back down the runway to deliver the apples beside the building. Then take off on the same runway.
The next airport landing is really difficult. This took me several tries. There is no direct route through a valley to this airport. You are going to be flying over mountain ranges and all kinds of unpredictable terrain. On my first try through here is when I discovered the de-icing problem. When you finally get to the area this airport is in, there is a huge lake on one side of the runway and forest on the other side. You need to land by coming over the forest side, facing the side with the lake. I don't remember the exact heading or runway number. This landing is tricky - it is a short runway, and the trees on the side that you're landing on come right up to the beginning of the runway, so you need to get really darn close to those trees to land short enough so that you don't run out of runway at the end.
Now when you get here, you're going to drop your co-pilot off with his own plane, I think its a Maule. Take back off the same direction as you landed. It should be a pretty simple takeoff, of course until about a minute later, you lose your left engine! At this point you will still hear your co-pilot talking to you since you are both on the same frequency. You need to now fly all the way to the next airport, which is 30 nm away, with just your right engine. First thing I did was pause and try and figure out how to feather the left prop. He tells me to feather it, but doesn't explain how exactly. This level required a lot of research. Basically you need to get into your cockpit view and view your center lever controls. There's a series of 3 twin-levers with different colored handles - Black on the left, blue in the middle, and red on the right. You want to choose the left-sided blue handle only. Just click it with your mouse to toggle the left-sided blue hand to the down (towards you) position. This will feather your left prop so its not creating more drag. Then make sure you trim your plane out. You're still going to need to use ailerons and elevator (joystick/yoke) to keep steady flight, but finding the right trim makes it a lot easier.
The next part is the longest leg of your mission. Fly to the next airport and your final landing will be a crosswind landing. Your adjusted rudder position with your most recent trim will be the correct rudder trim that you will also use for this landing, so at least they give you that advantage in this mission. It's a tricky landing, but I don't think the crosswind is as strong as the first airport you took off from.
Your mission is complete! Yeah, I don't think this level should be under the easy category. After I completed it, I went on the the next mission on the list and it was wayyy easier than the Resort Supply mission.
Sorry for the lengthy response, but I figured I would share what I had learned from attempting this mission several times and failing all but one.
FYI, the "wind flag" is called a "windsock".
I think there are some hidden traps in the standard missions. I think they have been designed to require use of correct techniques taught in the lessons even though they break the rules.
I think you need to apply the parking brake.
at the field the copilot says to "overfly the runway the check it out", don't take that literally! Stay to the left side as a "right approach" but close enough to see the runway. (that was a trigger that caught me.)
At the resort, pull up near the stacked crates on the patio and wait.
At the stranded Maule, stop "near" it and open your door - the copilot will get out.
And to "get over the mountains" - before that point just continue straight while climbing until you have the altitude to turn South and cross. AND you MUST have pitot heat on or you won't make it!!
After dropping your copilot and before you take off for home, set your autopilot for a moderate altitude (3000'?) with a low vertical speed (200-300 fps) in preparation for the upcoming lost engine, then be ready to feather the prop and cut the fuel for it.
Last two tips: save flight after each successful step and, if a landing doesn't trigger the next event, take off and land again (at some, if you land too long, it doesn't trigger the landing).
