FSX-SE Crashes Using Multiple Monitors
I use a three monitor system, and now when I add a new view, undock the window and transfer it from my primary monitor to the second or third monitor the simulator crashes. This now happens every single time, using either default or payware aircraft. This problem is a recent development, as I had been using three monitors without incident for the first 50 hrs of FSX-SE. I can still use three monitors successfully with FS9.

Is this a result of an FSX-SE update that was installed without my knowledge? Is there a solution to this problem?

FYI, my system is:
i7-960 3.2 GHz
12 MB RAM
3GB GeForce GTX590 (updated drivers installed)
Windows 7 64-bit

Thanks for your help!

Same here. I have 6 monitors (windows 8.1x64, i7 3550, 32 GB ram, AMD 7800 eyefinity) I used to happily have all my systems on separate monitors and I cannot undock a single window without crashing in less than 10 seconds. Its as if the feature does not even work.

This is upsetting to see Steam ignore this issue - since May or earlier? This is the third full copy of this game I purchased so I can use multiplayer and I am stuck with a single monitor.

I know going insane with monitors and yokes and throttles puts me in the minority and thus less of a headache for Steam but come on guys. Please. Anyone??

Me too!!! I have been trying to figure out what is wrong for weeks now and finally realized that I can no longer use my second monitor or the sim will crash. As long as I don't drag any panels to the second monitor the sim works fine. This really needs to be corrected.

I have the exact same problem. I'm running an I7 4790k at stock speeds, 8GB of RAM, and a GTX 970. Windows 10 64-bit.

My center monitor is 1080p, while my side ones are at a different resolution and aspect ratio. Maybe that's part of the issue?

I ran into the same issue on a new install, first it worked fine on 3 monitors. Came back for a second flight few hours later it started freezing every time I tried to add a window to monitor 3. My monitor 3 is on a different video card, not sure if this has anything to do with this.

Is there a fix for this yet?

I managed to resolve the problem, the one monitor that didn't work was the one plugged into my processor's integrated graphics. By switching it to my GPU it worked fine.

That doesn't sound like it's the solution to your problem though, best of luck to you!

I have had the same problems, and I only found one fix. I start FSX in windowed mode with all but my primary monitor physically disconnected. Once up and running using free flight, or whatever mode, pause the flight and reconnect the monitors. From there, I can undock all the views I want and put them on any monitor with no problems. Its annoying if you have to restart the mission or flight , or even change your aircraft, because you have to go through the whole setup process again. Thats why I try to stay with the same aircraft, and just load a flight plan from each airport I last landed at. I use 6 monitors off of three Geforce 770s. It can be time consuming.
Hope this helps.

I did a flight yesterday morning fine. FSX ran fine for months with two monitors. Starts in full screen mode most of the time.

I upgraded my Driver to the latest version/uninstalled Geforce Experience (seems like it causes more problems then does anything)

Restarted my computer, reinstalled everything, pulled all of my addons off and its the same thing. What exactly changed in 3 hours that can cause this? I validated my game integrity when it started crashing as well and found 8000 files were missing off it?

i7 4790k, GTX 970, 8gb RAM, Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

Ok, I did some testing and i realized that I checked the "Preview Direct X10" on my settings. I unchecked it and restarted fsx and now it works fine. Just throwing it out there for anyone that may have possibly done this!

Yess...It fix the problem...But then you have a new problem..and that is that you will have a blank "New view window" when you move it to the other monitor...
Try it..Add a new view and undock the window and move it to one of the other monitor...Not the monitor you have the main stuff on..(That will allways work)...And if you are unlucky the new "view window" will be blank and to fix that problem you have to check the "Preview Direct X10" and then you are back to zero again

You saved me in 2018. This issue even made my graphics card completely crash! So no software crash, just the hardware itself. I'm running 4 times 1920x1080
