Auto Pilot is'nt working properly!

I use to fly from SauPaulo to Paris in a x16 Speed (Simulation Rate) without any problem with the FSX, but it is so that any time when I play in the Steam version at that rate, over the 20000ft the autopilot can't stabilize the altitude and the plane starts going up and down in a range of 1000ft. What should i do! It happens at any plane and i don't have time to fly 12 hours in normal speed... Do others have the same problem?? Am i doing something wrong??

try turning on your pitot heat and maybe your other de-icers. It's at least a pitot heat problem causing the plane to drop till the ice melts then it climbs again. Ice isn't fully simulated but it will, at the least, screw with the pitot.

I had it happen once, long ago when i flew my Learjet south from new york to miami and had that happen and later found out it was because the pitot froze at high alititude in the sub-zero weather.

I have the same problem and I think that it is not a pitot heat or de-icers, I had them on but the problem was still there. Could you fix it?

Use 8x instead. 16x is too fast for the autopilot to handle.

16x at high altitiude will bounce up and down both in the original and in this version. Also causes the terrain to stop loading details and it gradually becomes completely blurred until you get back to 4x time accel.

16x will not bounce up to about 18k, but above that it starts to bounce.

I don't understand why it bounces up and down, in my case, in the original version at 16x and above 18k, it does not bounce!!! I have both versions installed.

si lo intenté pero tampoco hizo efecto :( que raro, en la versión normal no tenía ningun problema para usarlo a x16

Hola Alex, pues mira, ya he ido encontrado algunos cambios que se pueden hacer para mejorar el funcionamiento del piloto automático cuando estás a 16x. Aquí te paso lo que he hecho. Después de estas modificaciones sigue brincando un poco el piloto automático pero ya es mínimo y controlado, al menos suficiente para que puedas volar a 16x y no salgas del rango como para que el ATC esté molestando con que estás 300 pies arriba/abajo de la altitud. Son varios cambios y no sé que hagan y si son todos necesarios, yo los hice todos en el default 747 y funcionó, también en un A330-200 que tengo y también, no lo he probado en otros aviones pero supongo que aplica a cualquiera.
1.- Localiza el archivo Aircraft.cfg del avión con el cual quieres volar a 16x con el piloto automático.
2.- Has una copia del archivo original por si no te funciona y quieras regresar a la configuración original.
3.- Abre el archivo y localiza la línea "vertical_speed_time_constant = 1", modifica el 1 por 999 (vertical_speed_time_constant = 999)
4.- Localiza en ese mismo archivo las variables del piloto automático [autopilot], busca la línea que dice "max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=X.X" y modifica el valor a 0.3 (max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=0.3).
5.- En esa misma sección del piloto automático [autopilot] agrega las siguientes líneas, según yo no importa donde siempre y cuando estés dentro de [autopilot]:
use_no_default_pitch = 1
use_no_default_bank = 1
default_pitch_mode=0
default_bank_mode=0
6.- Guarda el archivo y cierralo. Inicia el FSX.
No afecta el funcionamiento origianl del avión, y según yo, el único cambio que es necesario es el de 0.3, los demás no lo sé, yo hice todo esto y funciona, si quieres probar haciendo únicamente ese cambio ya tú sabrás.
Avísame como te fue, si se arregló o si tienes alguna duda.
Otro tip que a lo mejor ya sabías: cuando vuelas con el piloto automático, no te deja ir a más de 16x, pero si ya vas a 16x, le aprietas la tecla R (o la que tengas configurada para modificar el speed rate) y le dejas apretada la tecla + vas a ir a 32x aunque te salga la leyenda de que no puedes ir a mas speed rate con el piloto automático activado. Tienes que dejar apretada la tecla "+" !!!

You are right falcon! The problem that we are finding is that in the box version of FSX it didn't bounce at all! Maybe it didn't happen because I didn't have the acceleration pack or something, and making the changes I wrote in my last message in the aircraft.cfg file, the bouncing is minimum and controlable by the autopilot at 16x and above 18k!

Hola Alex, estos cambios me han funcionado muy bien ya en varios aviones, no es necesario que hagas todos, con que pongas vertical_speed_time_constant = 999 y max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=0.3 es más que suficiente. Incluso ya probé cambiando el 0.3 a 0.1 y se obtienen mejores rendimientos. Espero y te haya funcionado también. Suerte!!!
