I cant say for sure as I use an ecternal Weather engine, but I believe they quit updating the weather data sometime ago. At least with FSX-MS this is the case.

real weather option in FSX been redundant for years, all you get is random historic weather, ASN or REXis your best bet....
ah thats ah shame if i get asn or rexi or any other addons do i have to put the weather myself or does it download real world weather?

I don't know about any of the other weather programs available, as I use REX Essential Plus Overdrive.

REX does download the actual weather and can keep the weather updated correctly from takeoff to touchdown. It is an outstanding program with some beautiful textures to "dress" up your overall simming experience. They are one of the best available and have been running a really great sale.

yes REX is compatible with fsx steam edition but i would suggest you try Active sky next i think its also compatible with fsx on steam because it has way more features than REX and the weather of it its the best atm

weather servers have been dead for quite some time, all you download is static data from years ago. I use a free program called FSrealWX lite to download weather data and push it to FSX

Thanks for the freeware info :) Will give it a go...

It looks like they have fixed in the new update. I cannot verify it for 100%, because I installed FSrealWX, which seem to not connect with FSX, but I have real weather data in it which changes even after I close FSrealWX.

RW weather has always been working. Most people who decided it didn't had hung up data. Empty your Temporary Internet Files folder before you turn on the Real-World Weather feature.

It may not be as flexible or reliable as the paid services, but it definitely still works. I was flying on Vatsim out of WA with a friend last week, he was using AS2012 and I was using Jeppeson's RW weather. Throughout the 2 hour flight, the reported winds and temperatures were close enough to not be important.

Some firewalls ♥♥♥♥ with it too. I run Win7U64, and I don't know how 8.x affects it at all, but from my experience, 9 times out of 10 if it stops working, its because its just loading up from the temp files.

Just has a little look to see what built in weather gave me against Active Sky 2012. This is the report that FSX Gave me:- both were run at EGCC (Manchester International)

Wind 263/4kt, Visibility 50mi, Thunderstorms, Temperature 35F(1c) Dew Point 31F (0c) Altimeter 29.75

Active Sky 2012:-

Wind 220/5kt, Visability 10SM, Clouds few at 3300 ft, Temperature -1c, Dew Point -2c, Percipitation none, Altimeter 29.74

The reports are close enough between the two, Winds speeds are a knot difference, Altimeter is pratically the same Jeppeson is reporting is beinf slightly warmer than Active Sky. Major difference is Jeppeson reporting Thunderstorms, compared to Active Skys scattard Clouds and no percipitation. Still it appears it working and is close enough to what you get with a paid service.
so by the looks of things the weather is back working?

Yes it seems so. It doesn't exactly match with METAR data I google at exact moment, but it is similar. Differences are only in matter of 1-2 degrees of temperature, or few knots of wind speed. Before it just set default atmosphere (20 degrees celsius), now it changes with time. I assume the real world weather takes data from somewhere, they may not be 100% accurate, but they are very similar to real data. This is probably caused by some delay in data provision.

The FSX default weather server comes and goes at will.. Never consistant.
