If you do a simple flight plan (e.g., KATL direct to KGPT) does it show the "magenta line"?
And - are you within 10 NM of the course (I presume you are but just checking)? If not, you will not see the course line.
I do have FS2004 installed too. Not sure if that is cuasing a problem. The GPS works fine in that version.
Thanks for all of the help.
RoY - You may have hit on something here. I once had a problem because I got a bit too clever in naming my flight plans and stuck a 'dot' (period) in the string which caused the flight plan to not be read. Seems logical that even the smallest bit of corruption might render the flight plan unreadable.
Another thing to try - when you select from the main menu Flights | Flight Planner and the Flight Plan box comes up - you then select 'Load' and pick the flight plan you want. THEN SELECT 'Find Route' and click 'Load' AGAIN. This will bring you back to the file set where you first selected this flight plan. Pick the same one again and click the 'Open' button (again, or double click on the file if that is what you like to do), then click 'OK'.
I do not have to do what I described above but some people have to. To RoY's point: If you have a valid flight plan it should show up with all the waypoints on the second 'Load' - the red route line on the map in the Flight Planner.
One question I did not ask earlier - You did say that nothing appears even if you do a simple point to point flight plan - is that true if you 'build' that plan directly in the Flight Planner?
And - one more thing to try - download this replacement to the Garmin 500: {LINK REMOVED}http://www.mediafire.com/download/jbnpi8eish4o9kh/fs9gps.cab
This is in the 'Gauges' folder of FSX-SE. You SHOULD back up the original file (my naming convention would rename the original version as fs9gps_cab.bak and I leave it in the original locaton - the Gauges folder - then copy the new file into that location. This version adds more terrain features, will show other aircraft (yellow squares with labels) withing the zoom range and if I am not mistaken corrrect the vertical speed calculation to make it in feet per minute (not something I use - I prefer to do the math myself, so I may be wrong on that one). Others reading this should feel free to download this also if you do the multiplayer thing or fly in tough terrain.
Good luck.
