Yes, There is something odd about the airport. Trees and bushes on the runway mean that the airport background poly has been removed or is not present. What airport is this?

It's Edwards Air Force Base.

OK. As I said earlier the general reason for this sort of problem is if the piece of terrain code (airport background poly) is missing or not set to exclude autogenerated trees and so on. I checked here and I don't see any issues with that airport. Have you got any addons or other stuff like AI packages or traffic files installed?

That missions starts at 9L2 Airport which is Edwards AF Aux North Base.

Start FSX and in Free Flight Go To Airport 9L2 runway 24.
Slew halfway down the runway and look to the left.
Are there bushes on that taxiway.

If there are bushes and trees out of place you could have one of the following

1. Additional Landclass
2. A corrupt landclass
3. Addon Airport (3rd party)
4. AI Payware installed

If you have no Addons the scenery files could be corrupt and you need to run the verify integrity cache tool in the FSX property local files menu

I just discovered a fix for that: turn down the Scenery Complexity from "Extremely Dense" to "Very Dense." The bushes on the taxiway (no idea why they are there, especially for Edwards) and fence will disappear. Microsoft's beta testers apparently didn't use maximum graphics settings when testing that mission 12 years ago.

I've come across just the same thing at a number of airports.

Usually I've found it had to do with the scenery load order (pity there is not a "Loot" app for FSX like there is for Skyrim and Fallout). The use of Orbx Vector tended to have a big effect depending on where it was located in the load order.

However for those stubborn ones where there are trees/bushes in locations that are just bad for an airport, there is a addon named LumberJack.

https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/6564/fsx-lumberjack-scenery

From the LumberJack description.

"This set of files will remove trees near runways for every airport supplied as standard with FSX. Some rural airports have trees right up to the threshold, making them rather tricky to use!"

Give it a try, it certain does what it says it will do.

Cheers

Good idea Rogen, but there is still a fence blocking the way to the runway after one uses LumberJack to remove the bushes. It isn't just the Executive Tour mission (although I haven't flown that many missions yet). The English Channel mission of the Early Years of Flight DLC has a building that you will always touch, no matter what, when you begin taxiing, if scenery is set to maximum. So to get full enjoyment one would need to get past whatever obstacles there are in maximum settings and then pause the sim to turn maximum settings back on.
