AI traffic cutting you off or overtaking you on approach. - How to fix...
One of the things that bugs me about FSX's default ATC is that it will often clear you to land, and then allow another aircraft to cut in front of you on approach, or one will pass you while you are on final forcing ATC to tell you to go around.

Here's my fix... Hit "R" to increase the simulation rate, and then use the "+" key 2 or 3 times. As soon as you increase the sim rate, the aircraft in your way will disappear. Then, immediately reduce the simulation rate back to normal, and make your approach as usual.

Pirate, that sounds like a handy idea, but I'm such an FSX prude (to a point) that I've never increased the simulation rate. But, I will turn off crash and phase right through the offending interloper! ;) Also, if I'm lined up on short final and ATC tells me to go around for some obscure reason (like if there are *no* other airplanes on my intended rwy) I land regardless of the instructions; I leverage my fuel handling by the droplets, so many times on apph I do have reserve on board, but not enough to circle the airport on ATC's ridiculous and ill-conceived instructions when they issue a go around, some of which have taken as long as 30 minutes to complete. This only applies when I'm flying the heavies, though, and larger turboprops like Dash 7s and 8s.

Still, FSX:SE is worth the time that I've put into it.

Remind me never to fly with you APUtech. Fuel management is managing fuel to handle all eventualities safely. THese incluse diversion to other airports and Go Arounds..
An unsafe pilot is a dead pilot, unfortunately his pasengers are too.

Harry, I started flying airplanes in Alaska at the age of 17 and I know how to manage fuel when flying an actual airplane. Need I remind you that FSX is a game/simulator? I have well over 33,000 (yes, thousand) hours in MSFS since 1982, so I certainIy don't need to be lectured about fuel management. I guess I'm a safe pilot because I have 3278 hours logged as a Private Pilot, 1244 hours of them IFR. I cut my fuel margins close in FSX because I can.

Reminder: never fly with me. ;)

Hence this thread, You obviously cut them too close in FSX or you would not have asked this question. It is a simulator so if ATC does as ATC might and send you round because a rabbit was seen playing on the runway and you cannot go around you have not managed fuel right.

Never fly with me. On second thought, let's fly online and you can show me how to handle an airplane properly. ;) (wink, wink) this thread is...so how long have you been a licensed pilot, harry, that you would go as far as posting FAA safety briefings on a flight simulator forum? This is getting embarrassing--I'm going to finish my flight to Galapagos. Good day.

Hey this programme http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/1645/fsx-aismooth/ will help reduce that go into the setting set the separation to 5 or 6 nautical miles though. mind you the will be some go arounds that fall through.

Hiya, xAtmospher! I just may have to try that, thanks! :)

I don't generally use it unless I don't have sufficient time to complete the flight.

When I'm "clearing ATC", I do this so fast that the rate really never seems to change. Hitting the R just sets the mode, it dosn't actually increase the frame rate until you hit the + key. So, I hit the + key 2-3 times quickly and then immediately hit the - key the same number of times to get back to normal sim rate. When done properly, the plane covers very little distance during the procedure.

I do have that, but it has stopped preventing go-arounds recently, there must be a missing file but I can't figure out what it is and where it is, I tried everything in the book but AISmooth just isn't helping anymore, some of my FSX files have been moved due to a Windows update, and I tried to change where FSX saves my files because although I'm not low on disk space on drive C yet, I'm a little concerned about how much free memory I have left, but Flight Simulator couldn't find the default flight. Is there any chance you can tell me what's wrong with AISmooth?
