input airport destination letters into gps 400
can someone supply step by step instructions for inputting an airport destination into the gps? For example if your just flying locally and decide to fly to a certain airport in another area, how do you input the airport designation into the gps?

When FSX is running click the Help menu. Now click on the learning center and select the letter "G" for using GPS.

Short summary using the GPS 500 (the 400 should be similar):

1) Bring up the GPS (shortcut: Shift-3)
2) Click on the button on the right side with a letter D with an arrow going through it. It is labeled as "Display: Direct to Waypoint Page"
3) You should have a flashing cursor on the top box that says Ident, Facility, & City. Use the two knobs on the bottom right of the GPS. The smaller knob changes letter/number, and the larger knob that is around it to go to the next letter/number.
4) For best results, enter the airport code. For Boston's Logan Airport, for example, use KBOS.
5) When done, push the ENT button that is below the D-Arrow button. You may need to do it a few times to say yes when the GPS asks you if you want to activate it.

When I do as described in your item #2, I get a flashing green box where the airport code should be typed but when I use the center knob in lower right cornere which should create curser it just shuts down the "direct to waypoint" page that I need to type in. Problem is nothing creats a curser and then can't input anything.

Don't click on "PUSH CRSR." Move the mouse cursor over the <-- --> arrows of the smaller knob so the white cursor changes into a finger with a + (or -) sign on it. When you click on that area, you should see a letter or number as the first character.

BF Bullpup... thanks for the tip... that turned out to be the piece of info I needed to input a destination code in the default cessna 172 gps. The same proceedure does not work in the a2a cessna 182 however either because it is a different model gps or maybe because there is something wrong with my aircraft or download. The buttons down in the lower right hand corner of the gps 500 in that aircraft does nothing other than close out the gps window. Anyway I can now use the default aircraft gps... I thank you for that :-)
