the most frequent cause for what you are describing is a corrupted logbook.bin file...try deleting it(in your documents folder/Flight Simulator X Files) and see if that helps.
If you do not want to lose all your logged flights, you can get this little tool that will help you recover at least some parts: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/1675/fsx-logbook-recovery/
I will try that hope it works.
as far as the cracked version, DTG can refuse to assist if you are using a pirated/cracked version...whether you bought it or not doesnt give you the right to run the pirated version.
this is just my opinion....
therefore, delete/uninstall all versions of FSX and run steam as admin.
(fsx requires admin rights for itself, and some addons)
make sure your video card drivers are up to date, dont just assume they are, check to make sure
step 1, Install all the simconnects that DTG doesnt automatically install for you
keep in mind these are simconnect.msi files...just double click to install
where my FSX:SE is installed into my E:\ drive
there are actually (4) simconnects in FSX:SE
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib
(install this one first)
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-RTM
(install this one 2nd)
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-SP1
(install this one 3rd)
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-XPACK (YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TO INSTALL THIS ONE)
DTG now includes the install for the xpack since the last update/patch
the 2nd thing to do is install the C++ redistributable
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2005
there are 2 files here
vcredist_x86.msi (to install for 32 bit)
vcredist_x64.msi (to install for 64 bit)
just double click on the pertinant one for your system, should be 64bit
If you can't find them in your directory can you please go to this website, download and install these two files.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3387
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21254
Please make sure you install them to the same drive where you have FSX installed. It doesn't need to be same folder or anything. Just the same hard drive.
just to make sure it is installed, the XML parser should also be installed, it should have been loaded already by fsx
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\Installers
msxml.msi
double click this file to install
It looks like the game needs the MSXML 4.0 dlls installed for x86 and they aren't included in the redistribution or are failing to install as part of the Steam setup on Win 8.1 Pro.
I downloaded the MSXML 4.0 SP2 and SP2 Hotfix from Microsoft and everything then worked. Get the files from:
MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Services) - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19662
Security Update for MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430) - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14623
install Directx 9.0c
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010
also make sure directx 10 preview is UNCHECKED....initially for testing purposes
or reinstall it again and reboot your pc
I did everything you said. It still doesnot work...
are you getting to the main menu, or just the splash screen?
is DX10 preview unchecked
have you updated your video card drivers
when you reinstalled, did you delete the main FSX directory as well as the data directories
if you dont mind give me the location path to your FSX:steam
as well as the location f your FSX.CFG
The shader folders are located in here: C:\Users\(Your user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX
the fsx.cfg file is located here:C:\Users\(Your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
rename fsx.cfg to fsx_cfg.old(FSX will create a new one)
make sure steam is running as ADMIN
(this will force fsx as a child process to run under admin creds as well)
make sure your video card drivers are up to date
go to the following location
C:\Users\<Your computer name goes here>l\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
in this folder you will find logbook.bin
rename this to old-logbook.bin
(this will allow fsx to create a brand new logbook.bin)
I am assuming you have installed the simconnects, msxml parser and c++ libs as i requested previously)
this should help you getting everything running correctly, test and let me know
I did everything you told me. ( simconnects, msxml parser and c++)
It shows me the splash then nothing happens.
But however i setup the cracked version and it works. But i want to play steam edition. I did all the things you told me. I updated my GPU driver 5 days ago.
But i dont know how to uncheck the DX10.
go to the following location
C:\Users\<Your computer name goes here>l\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
in this folder you will find logbook.bin
rename this to old-logbook.bin
the fsx.cfg file is located here:
C:\Users\(Your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
rename fsx.cfg to FSX_OLD.cfg
this will allow fsx to create a new fsx.cfg
or this method below
FSX logbook utility
It is a very simple utility that goes in your FSX:SE Document folder where your Log Book .bin exist. You can download the FSX Logbook Recovery v1.1 by Daniel van Os from the following link.
http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/1675/fsx-logbook-recovery/
this small utility will tell you if the Log Book is corrupt or not. If Corrupt it will fix it for you without losing any Logged time.
then go to this location and delete the FSX directory
C:\Users\(Your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft
next delete te FSX folder from this location
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft
check and make sure that your video card drivers are updated, dont just assume they are current
now run steam as admin, and follow the steps i outlined previously to download and install FSX:steam edition (running steam as admin is required for files access within FSX)
If you would like further assisstance, we need more info
what is the install path to your FSX
example for my install [ E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX ]
what cpu(amd/intel) what model (i5,i7...etc)
what brand and model of video card/how much memory on that card(ATI/Nvidia)
how much system memory
what operating system are you using
are you running antivirus software(may interfere with installations)
more info is always better when concerning FSX
Install only 1 version of FSX, either BOXED version or Steam version...
steam will co-exist with boxed but makes troubleshooting that much more complicated
as always, I am happy to help, as long as you follow the directions i request you to follow
mikeytwc
C:\Users\(Your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX i dont have this file in my folder. Maybe this is the reason it doesnot work?
-Also the utility doesnt work because i dont have FSX folder in my Documents folder.
-Im using win 8.1 and i dont use antivirus or windows firewall.
-My fsx folder is D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX
-My cpu is AMD Fx 8320.
-8gb system memory.
-My gpu is AMD R9 285 2gb gddr5 rams
-And i played FSX Steam Edition before on this setup. It just doesnot work this time.
Really appriciated yout help Mike. But I dont think i will be able to run this game. I just bought my self a 2. monitor so i could play FSX better view but i think i wont be able to :S
then reinstall thru steam (running steam as admin)
verify that your gpu drivers are up to date, do not assume they are
my recommendation is to install to another drive other than C:
like mine is E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX
once that is done then install the simconnects, msxml parser and c++
check for these directories after installing, ALL pc's with FSX should have these files
the fsx.cfg file is located here:
C:\Users\(Your computername)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
rename fsx.cfg to FSX_OLD.cfg
this will allow fsx to create a new fsx.cfg
once that is done, run FSX for the first time
if you are on at the same time as I am you can always try to chat with me thru steam. perhaps together we can get it going for you
I give up on this game. I was even gonna play it like 2-3 hours now i worked 2-3 hours of fixing it, redownloading it and resetup and all other simconnect stuff. Im tired of this ♥♥♥♥ and i dont recomment anyone to buy and play Steam Edition of FSX.
