Simconnect problem since I moved over to FSX:SE
Hi,

i have a problem with a GAU since I moved over to FSX:SE. It was working in FSX ACC without any problems.

As an operating System I have Win7Prof.

I already did a re-install of all SDK features (I have 4 listed in my software overview). Futhermore I have the additional menu in FSX:SE so everything should be fine from a SDK perspective, but it isn't :(

The Problem:

On selection of an airplane with the gauge, I recieve the following error message:

Message: Could not connect to Flight Simulator! File : Lib\FSX\SimConnectWrapper.cpp Function: swan2::lib::fsx::SimConnectWrapper:Init Line : 286

So from my understanding it is a C++ (cpp) Gauge, saved in a DLL. The error message occurs on the airplane selection screen. On selection of the plane I got asked, if I want to load the addtional module, I confirm (but only for this session) and afterwards I recieve the described pop-up with the error message.

So I think a component of my SDK is missing/broken or something else is missing. Do you have any hints for me?

Thx and KR
Itchy2

Did you manually run all SimConnect executables? Usually this fixes the problem because they are, for mysterious reasons, not always selfinstalling after clean installation.

Yes i did. I executed:

  • D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib
  • D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-RTM
  • D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-SP1
  • D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-XPACK

I was not able to install the SP1a, because the installer is not able to find an original release of FSX SDK.

well, my suggestion looks like the following,

First make sure you are running steam as admin(fsx requires admin rights for itself, and some addons)
make sure your video card drivers are up to date, dont just assume they are, check to make sure

step 1, Install all the simconnects that DTG doesnt automatically install for you

keep in mind these are simconnect.msi files...right click and install as admin to install

where my FSX:SE is installed into my E:\ drive
there are actually (4) simconnects in FSX:SE

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib
(install this one first)

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-RTM
(install this one 2nd)

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-SP1
(install this one 3rd)

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-XPACK (YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TO INSTALL THIS ONE)
DTG now includes the install for the xpack since the last update/patch

the 2nd thing to do is install the C++ redistributable

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2005
there are 2 files here

vcredist_x86.msi (to install for 32 bit)
vcredist_x64.msi (to install for 64 bit)
just double click on the pertinant one for your system, should be 64bit

If you can't find them in your directory can you please go to this website, download and install these two files.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3387
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21254

Please make sure you install them to the same drive where you have FSX installed. It doesn't need to be same folder or anything. Just the same hard drive.

just to make sure it is installed, the XML parser should also be installed, it should have been loaded already by fsx

E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\Installers
msxml.msi
right click and select install as admin(run as admin?) this file to install

It looks like the game needs the MSXML 4.0 dlls installed for x86 and they aren't included in the redistribution or are failing to install as part of the Steam setup on Win 8.1 Pro.

I downloaded the MSXML 4.0 SP2 and SP2 Hotfix from Microsoft and everything then worked. Get the files from:

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Services) - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19662
Security Update for MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430) - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14623

install Directx 9.0c
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

once these are installed, run steam as admin and start up FSX and see if all works as intended

oh, and the service packs are already in SE version, no need to install acceleration or service packs related to fsx....the msxml service pack IS recommended

This is the KLN90B?

There's a tweaked version here
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/the-kln90b-for-fsx-prepar3d-in-beta.432845/

there's some mention in that thread about issues with FSX-SE which were fixed so that might help.

it appears there were 3 .dll files that are included with the package that have been corrected. Good find Morag

Hi,

@mikeytwc: I already found you explanations somewhere else in the forum and followed every single step.

@Morag: Yes it is this version of the KLN90B. I have already tried different versions of the KLN and they all delivered the same result.

What is unclear/open to me: It worked on my FSX non Steam version. Thats really strange.
