FSX FPS Problem
So recently I've been getting 2-13FPS on Ultra High settings. Just not too long ago I was able to get 40-60FPS (Rough estimate) on Ultra High settings. Does anyone have a solution?

System Specs
AMD FX-8320 Eight Core Processor 3.50 GHz
8GB RAM
64-bit x64-based processor
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

I am having the same problem. Recently my ORBX scenery has been taking longer to load as I fly at low altitudes resulting in blurry textures. I don't have a wimpy system. It is not optimum but I do have an i7 overclocked to 3.6 Mhz, an Asus GTX 960 with 4 GB memory OCed to near max, 12 GB of ram, etc. I am also considering buying an SSD just to hold all my Flight sim stuff. This blurries problem just started since switching to FSX-SE. I didn't have this problem with the boxed version even with my system tuned down to default. I have seen that others are also experiencing blurries. I don't think it is my computer causing this. At first I was getting fantastic FPS with SE, now it runs in the 20s and when passing over cities and large airports I am lucky to get 10 to 12 FPS. What could be causing this slow down?

I recommend using DX10 along with Steve's DirectX 10 Fixer. It costs money, but it gives the best results. I get 24-30 fps everywhere I fly, even very large cities. I keep my sliders set to the recommended settings for my system specs located in the Orbx manual, and my water is set to 2.x Low. With Steve's fixer, I can set the cfg tweaks within the program. My recommended settings in the fsx.cfg for my system specs are...

Bufferpools=0
TextureMaxLoad=6
Swap Wait Timeout=2
Texture Bandwidth Multiplier=80
LODRadius=4.5
AffinityMask=14
Max Async Batching Jobs=3
Fiber Time Fraction=0.05

If you have Steve's Fixer, you can apply these in the program, or you can google the tweak and apply them directly to your fsx.cfg. Google them if you need to, so you'll know how to add them directly.

You can also tweak your effects.cfg located in your effects folder. Multiply each of the numbers in that effects.cfg by 0.25 (1/4 of the amount) and use that number instead. Save and exit. This tweak lowers the effect's emit rate, distance, detail, etc. globally, so your system won't take a hit when volumetric effects like contrails and smoke in cities appear. For some reason, even the best systems take a huge hit when volumetric effects appear. Some low end computers will just crash, and this tweak seems to fix that issue. You won't notice much of a difference in how they look, just overall a bit less dense. IMO the gain was worth it.

Along with Steve's Fixer, I use NVidia Inspector. FSX is listed in the profiles as Microsoft Flight Simulator 10. Google and read the FSX Bible to understand how it needs to be set up.

If you use Windows 7, don't forget to google the "Windows Evil Update", and make sure it's removed from your system! (You'll may get script errors when you start FSX, but it doesn't affect playing the game in any way)

I have tons of addon sceneries and airplanes installed, and I have no issues running it as I stated above. My system specs are...

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 R5 MOBO, AMD FX-8350 4.2GHZ Black Edition 8 Core CPU, Thermaltake 550v PSU, 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHZ DDR3 RAM, EVGA GEFORCE GTX 960 SSC 4GB DDR5 GPU, 1TB WD Blue HDD, Samsung 120GB SSD, ASUS DVD/RW

If you need further help setting things up, just message me.

I just uploaded a package to the FSX/misc section of Simviation.com that contains files that modify your autogen and your effect.cfg. The download is called FSX FPS Modified Files. Look for the US Central Airlines logo.

These files will score you 15+ fps across the board, and has almost no noticeable visual change to your sim!

I suggest you go to the website, download it, read the included instructions, and copy/paste those files to the correct locations. Make sure you backup your original files beforehand.

Hi Jack I just installed your files, it ran much faster, unfortunately it removed all my trees :steamsad: I backe d up so no damage

I'm surprised it removed your trees. I've never had that problem. You may look into...

Open the FSX.CFG File (see more information re location).

Add this entry, just below the [TERRAIN] section in FSX.CFG

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4500
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000

The figures above are the default and you should set them to a lower amount. Setting to 0 for instance will mean that you see no objects in the simulation. Please note that the maximum setting for each item is 6000 and it is suggested that you use a minimum of 10 to avoid issues within the game.

The suggested settings to set initially are:

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1000
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=800

I hope this helps!

First of all thanks for your kind reply.

I know of these lines in Terrain
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1000
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=800
but on your suggestion I tried them, but still deleted my trees.

Then I had a thought - I only fly in ORBX scenery NZ and UK in FSE and maybe this is why your Autogen fix didn't work and deleted all my trees. SO - I just did another test flying from Adelaide (I have NO add ons for Australia) and sure enough your Autogen fix DID NOT delete the trees. So my deleted trees problem is with ORBX.
