FSX SE Not Responding.
I hope that someone can help me out here because I am out of my depth :-). As of last night I have been unable to start FSX SE, which I am running on a desk top PC with Wndows 10. I closed the game down after a succesful flight but the normal shut down stalled and I eventually closed down using Task Manager. I attempted a start this morning and all seemed to be going well until the programme stalled. I have the Moving Map DLC installed (which, incidentally, I think is a great add on) and the start up seemed to be progressing normally. The pop up asking if I wanted to open the Moving Map appeared and I clicked 'Yes' and then the programmes stalled with 18 seconds left on the DLC load 9only takes around 25 seconds). A new pop up appeared - "It seems you have not purchased the Moving Map DLC for FSX SE yet. Please purchase the DLC and try again (I have been running the DLC since June of this year). My first thought was that it was something to do with the DLC so I returned to Steam, unchecked the DLC then re-checked it. The new download seemd to go to plan and the 'Installed' logo appeared next to the DLC. Retry the FSX open and it stalled at exactly the same point with the same pop up. Next move was to 'Verify System Files' and this produced the result '28 Files have not been verified and will be re-acquired'. Closed down Steam, restarted the computer and ran the file verification process again and got a positive outcome 'All Files have been verified'. Re-started FSX SE and the start up stalled at the 18 secondto go point on the DLC load. Cancelled the DLC load, restarted FSX SE and selected 'No' from the DLC pop up and the load still stalled. All through the process the Task Manager reported FSX SE (Not responding).

Sadly I am not sufficiently computer savvy (how many 74 year olds are?) to understand where to go from here. Simple request - HELP please.

You are about the same age as my Dad who was a very smart man, and very good at running and maintaining computers, so don't underestimate yourself. He also became a pilot and inspired me to do the same. Sadly he passed away a few years ago.

If it's crashing at the point of loading the Moving map DLC, uninstall it, start a fresh game, let it run for a while making sure FSX is running ok, shut down properly then reinstall the DLC and see if that worked.

Another thought on your problem, you may have a corrupted saved game file. Delete the offending saved game and restart the sim.

Hope that helps.

This creation says something quite different, sadly.

It's mentioned in a Shakespeare play. Man that is - born - of woman. [Doesn't exist and never did.]

As the first inhabitants of this planet had to be created from nothing then how did we - really -come to exist ourselves?

You have no tangible proof that you were born from your mother's womb.

As this creation is actually a phony then the entire question of pregnancy actually lies in false memory and this memory is as false as a false pregnancy.

Take SOB for example. We all know that the B is a female...

You can take this entire planet and all of creation as being purely a supernatural freak.

Remember Barnam and Bailey?

That is all that we are. All that we have ever been. Freaks of creation.

History speaks for itself with all of its - very - many wars.

Yes, it is.

Sick.
What on Earth are you talking about Pegasus? If you don't have a father, you're definitely living on a different plane, one contrary to science and the real world, and one filled with pixies and cookoo clocks.

How about we get back to subject .... the one that can help daveyg back on track with FSX-SE.

LOL You'll have to forgive our friend Pegasus, who used to be known as Icarus around here until he crashed and burned... He often gets sidetracked on these deeply philosophical, but often bizarre tangents which seem to make no sense at all because, well, they don't.

Take your pills Pegasus, none of your 2 previous posts have been on topic

What have I done? Pegasus, I am your Belorophan and you will be slain.

Thanks Nightmare 1964. Tried that and FSX does not open. Task Manager indicated 'Not Responding'. I'm wondering, if I uninstall FSX SE from the drop down on Steam will I be able to subsequently install it from the same menu? Something is obviously corrupted somewhere but I have no idea how to locate the problem.

Pegasus, those things I had already done - to no avail, so have just completed a clean reinstallation following the tip that you gave me in your #6 above. I have to admit that I didn't carry out all of the additional precautions that you advised as they were waaay out of my comfort zone. I have just carried out a brief circuit of Inverness and all seems to be functioning as advertised.

So, thanks for your help, although it might have been easier for all if you had stayed on topic - I still am unable to make head or tail of any of your 'wisdoms'. Still, I am airborne again and your pointer towards the correct uninstall procedure was invaluable.

My thanks are also extended to nightmare 64 for his input.

Many peoples had/have no concept of heaven or angels, take the Druids as just one example.

Valhalla is not eternal warring but the Great Hall of Asgard where half of the warriors who died in battle, selected by Odin, were housed and 'entertained'. Not eternal warring but an eternal party. The half not selected for Valhalla were guests of Freyja.

Althought the Greek and Romans had different names for their gods many of them fulfilled the same roles. At least some of hese gods were assimilated into Anglo Saxon culture as well before christianity came along and spoiled it all.

The Egyptians at the time of the phaorohs had many gods - too many to list and far too many for me to remember but Isis, Ra, Nun, Nut and Osiris are in my head.

Did the cheshire cat disappear? At least its grin remained surely.

As for the vanished - we could do with many more vanishers - there are far too many humans on this planet - and at least half of 'em are bonkers. Which camp are you in?
