Certificate Expired ERROR upon starting up FSX-SE
Upon loading a fresh copy of FSX-SE, I am getting the certificate is expired error box. If i had a place to put a screenshot it would be evident what Im speaking about but have never seen it before over years of using FSX-SE. Went through the view certificate & clicked on both boxes it supplied, itsaid it accepted the certiificate but the error box still pops up on start up. Don't know what to do.

We are ALL getting this certificate expired response. Dovetail no longer supports FSX-SE and Microsoft likely is devoting most of their time fixing bugs from the XBOX version of FSX. I tried reaching MS but due to the holidays, no one that works the platform were available to assist. My guess is, they already are aware of the issue and will get to it in due time. It has also caused my active weather software (ASN Active Sky Live) to be rejected by FSX:SE and when I open my weather app, it crashes FSX:SE and automatically closes it thus not allowing me to have real weather. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I just saw this and so went into my FSX to check it out. I does tell me about the expired cert also. But I just clicked "yes" to the prompt, "do I want to proceed"? and everything works just fine. Both ASN and FSX. Re-accepting that cert will NOT make it any less "expired" so we will get prompted until resolved, but in the mean time everything works just fine for me by just "proceeding".

Yes, I see FSX-SE does continue after clicking on Accept in the Cert Box, but Active Sky or any other that works with FSX-SE will not. Like mymichael said, mine says no or not affirm or something like that then disappears. Previously when I had to reinstall windows, about a month ago, and reinstalling FSX-SE, got aalot of errors within steam with error boxes stating DoveTail RAIL something so yea something is screwed up. Hope it gets fixed soon. Thanks for the replys

Your mixing up your other problems with this. This is only the security certificate for the HOME page website that has expired. This has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING else but that web page and DOES NOT affect ANY of the other functions of FSX or ASN.

If you say NO to this dialog, then it simply will not display the HOME page, but NOTHING else is affected. Your other problems are NOT related to this issue. This issue is a "non-issue", just click the "yes" button and the home page will display even though the security cert is expired. Again.....NOTHING ELSE in FSX is affected. You should never have been trying to "accept" the certificate in the first place, the cert was already accepted, it has now simply "expired".

Funny thing, maybe, I looked at the certificate, and it looks valid. Odd.

It is a valid certificate, but it is also an EXPIRED certificate.

Look closer:

Issued to: *.microsoftstudios.com
Issued by: Microsoft RSA TLS CA 01 (certificate authority)
Valid from 12/18/2020 to 12/18/2021

You can re-install it it a million times and it will still be expired.

Whoops, I was reading it wrong. Thanks for making me go look at it again to make sure.

Since there are a number of "Microsoft" references in the cert, which kind of indicates Microsoft are the responsible crew for the certificate's management, perhaps fling Microsoft support an email or dozen :-)
So... can this be fixed ???

Of course... If Microsoft wants to, otherwise you can choose to ignore the message.

It's just the same as any website where the certificate has expired and the issuer of the certificate (being Microsoft according to the actual certificate) and probably the owner of the microsoftstudios.com domain, need to renew it, plus actually install the renewed certificate.

You could notify Microsoft Support that their certificate has expired.

Cheers

To ALL,
Had the problem with the Cert expired crap for a few months now. Just TRIED to fire up MSFS-X and NOW IT CRASHES EXACTLY where the notice popped up!!! Anyone know what the F is up? Also, I bought a new DLC plane that was installed by Steam before this happened. Any help will do. Have had nothing but problems wiht this game, mostly caused by MacroCrud Windows updates.

As JJ FSX noted, the issue of the security certificate message is due to the defunct home page. The home page in FSX-SE can be changed by replacing just one file "gshome.spb" in the "Dialogs" directory in the FSX-SE installed location. See the info and fix provided by bbogdansk here:
https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/531161-fsxse-home-screen-has-changed-why/?do=findComment&comment=3853399
and also discussed here:

NOTE: I used bbogdansk's version 1 file - which worked for me (from his Google Drive download). The later Version 2 file he made (available from AVSIM) did not work for me, as the same stupid security certificate popped up.

Will check it out, thanks
JJ FSX Apr 4, 2022 @ 12:21pm
@miller, your problem is NOT due to the certificate. It just "seems" so. Think about it. If the cert issue was not there, you would still be crashing at the same point, (startup) because that is where many things that could fail will crash. If your logbook gets corrupted, it will lockup FSX at the splash screen, just before the "home" screen displays. So, even with this expired certificate situation, you will never even get to that dialog if "anything" before it crashes first. And any add-ons that load through exe.xml and dll.xml ALL happen BEFORE you get to the home page. This is a NON-issue and many users are causing their own problems trying to fix something they don't understand is really NOT broken.

People!...... Just click YES to proceed and move on. And don't blame other problems you are having on this, because THIS in NOT the cause for "any" other symptoms or problems you may be having.

You would do yourself better to spend time on identifying your actual problem than working on this, it's not going to solve your actual problem.
