Real world weather from Jeppesen
Hi - I keep getting an error message when I select real world weather - either my Internet connection isn't working (it is) or my configuration is incorrect.

Can anyone help me fix the config? Thank you very much in anticipation!

Real-time weather from Jeppesen, which had a contract with Microsoft (not Dovetail), expired several years ago. Get a third party weather add-on. I recommend Active Sky Next, available as DLC from Steam, it's excellent. Another bright side is that it processes the weather separately, leaving more resources for FSX.

And it's on sale right now for 50% off! Only $12.49.

Hi again JJ - I purchased, downloaded and installed Active Sky Next but when I try to use Real Time Weather, the same error message appears. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks again!

Okay - ignore the above as I see I had to start a separate program - which I did and now it says a critical error has occurred and I have no idea what to do now. LOL

Hi - is it possible to uninstall this ASN and obtain a refund? My computer doesn't seem to like it for whatever reason and I don't really want to spend a lot of time trying to figure it all out. Thanks for your help! :-)

Yes you start it as the Active Sky Configuration Tool, before you start FSX.

It's not a hard program to figure out, it is really easy to start in a basic way, just learn to make sure its configured to use LIVE weather. And if ever in doubt that it's locked onto your aircraft go to the MAP tab and select "lock to aircraft". When ASN is running, it overrides all settings inside FSX except missions, and you will see a new entry for it in the list of select-able weather options too. You can just run that way till you get time to read more of the manual later and you should to get much more out of it, i've read it and it's really not that much or hard to understand, things like how to install the weather gauge into any aircraft and more are important.

The "short" but must read manual is accessed through the HELP tab on the menu bar. It includes the below quick start portion too but it will pay off if you spend a little time reading the important stuff in the manual, whats inside is worth it, anyway again, quick start below:

Quick Start

To jump right into ASN, just run the program and take 3 simple steps:

1. Configure your Weather

Press the Wx Configuration button to bring up the Wx Configuration Screen. Your current weather mode is shown. Use the Weather Mode dropdown to select your desired mode:
a. Live
Live mode provides automatic updates of actual real-time conditions, keeping you in sync with real data at all times
b. Historical
In Historical mode, you select the date/time (within the past 2 years) you would like data for, and conditions are automatically and dynamically updated from that point forward
c. Manual
Manual mode is OFFLINE and does not automatically update. Once you enter manual mode, the current weather conditions (as last set/downloaded) are activated, and you can then change the conditions as you desire using a simple weather-editing interface.

2. Plan your Flight
Use the Map, Conditions, Flight Plan, Briefing and Search screens to examine the weather and establish your route of flight. You can import flight plans or create your own using our simple auto-routing feature. Flight plans are not required, but are highly recommended, as they enable more accurate weather conditions as well as provide more accurate data reports. Flight plans also enable certain features and map overlays.

3. Fly!

Now you are ready to begin your flight with ASN! Just startup your sim and go! During your flight, you can get weather updates from ASN, through the interface, the gauge, or via voice reports you can get by tuning 122.00, 122.02, or 122.05 (see the Voice Features chapter for more information).
