Glass Cockpit selector knob not working
Hi,
I found this post on google and I have the exact same problem.

“Hello,

My question is a technical one, I loaded up the 172 with G1000. I am using FSX for real pilots book. Here is what happens, I load a flight plan, and it has several waypoints. The book is trying to show how to "skip" a waypoint and scroll/activate the next one. My problem, I cannot use the FMS knob to scroll, the cursor comes on but I cannot scroll and select a new waypoint. Also, I cannot change pages in the normal display, it is like it is stuck. I was online with microsoft for about an hour, they had me rebuild cfg files and such and concluded with, it is not designed to scroll. I cannot believe that a basic function does not work, the G1000 is useless to me if I cannot scroll to nrst airport etc. Is anyone else having or heard of this problem? I am frustrated as I cannot use the G1000 to navigate due to this limitation. The "using the G1000" book on FSinsider shows you how to use it yet it will not work. It is the same on two systems, is this normal? HELP?”

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Diego

I can't address if you have a default file problem of that plane or not. I can only mention that the control for the "flightplan" workings in the G1000 is made up as a center button and an outer ring. On each part movement is effected by clicking (I don't have a scroll mouse) at the "4 corners" of the button or ring.

I expect you, because of your exploits, know all about using the G1000 in general. But one of the best videos I know of to show all functions (including this particular part of it) is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lwfrs7K2nk

Yeah I already tried finding the outer rings but the problem is that it only has one ring, so I am able to search for airports but only the first letter, I can’t change to the next letter space.

There is one "outer ring" and one center button (aka "inner ring") and each (I think) has a top and bottom section and a left and right side. As I recall, the exact trigger spot of each is kind of tough to hit just right; especially when the plane is moving about. Think of each round "ring" or "button" as being a square box and work with the four corners of each.

This may or may not be your particular issue; only one thought to pursue. My approach to accomplishing what you're doing is to use the G500 popup for flight plan manipulations instead of the in-dash G1000 - it's easier for me both to see and to use for flight plans. The planes I use that have the G1000 generally have a G500 popup available.

I could try the G500 but the inner and outer rings aren’t working. It worked once with the baron and it was during approach but after that, it never worked again with any glass cockpit plane.
The only things posible yo do are select a letter but I can’t change letter space and I can turn on and off the selector with the center botton.

If it worked at one time and then quit working in all the G1000 equipped planes, then it is likely a fault in the G1000 gauge file. Do you recall adding any third party planes about that time that were Garmin equipped. It may have caused the gauge file change somehow. ??? If you have a backup of the original files in the Gauge folder, you might try replacing the one there now. (G1000.cab)

No, i didn’t add anything, but it was weird because the time it worked, I hadn’t been working until I did the approach, but during flight time, I never had a response of one of the rings.

Here’s a video about my problem. See how I don’t have any more rings to click on.

Yes, I see what you mean. Also the empty "label" box. Do the control knobs/rings for the COM and NAV work properly? The only thing that comes to my mind, if this is in all planes with G1000, is find a way to replace the G1000.bin file in the Gauges folder.

Yes, it’s only on that knob. How could I replace the bin file? Where could I get a useful file?

dmoran97, I figured it out.

To change the active leg in the g1000 GPS and activate it, which was your original goal:

1. Click FLT button.
2. Click NRST soft button
3. Ignore the fact that its displaying nearest airports and....

4. Use the outer wheel button on the plus side and click the number of times it takes to reach the "leg" you want to activate. If its the second leg click once, the third click twice etc. If you get the wrong one which you won't know till you do step 5. just cancel, (click CLR) and scroll either way until you get to the leg you want. Notice that the display is scrolling to the next or previous Nearest Airport ICAO depending on which way you are scrolling, but what its really doing is moving down or up the list of LEGS in your flight plan.

5. Click MENU and you will be prompted to activate the leg.
6 Click Ent to accept it and that leg becomes the active leg.

Again, if the one displayed is not the leg you wanted, just click CLR and use the scroll wheel to move up and down the list again, clicking MENU again to see which leg its on until you get to the LEG you want, then Click ENT to activate it.

WTG JJ ! I never used the G1000 for flight plan stuff (always the G500 popup) because it's small and harder for me to see. (I don't "zoom" in the cockpit either as it takes me away from seeing what's going on around me.)

Hi JJFSX,

It worked! Thank you so much! You’re a life saver! Uncle joe thank you also so much for taking the time to help me!
Thank you both!
