I expect you, because of your exploits, know all about using the G1000 in general. But one of the best videos I know of to show all functions (including this particular part of it) is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lwfrs7K2nk
This may or may not be your particular issue; only one thought to pursue. My approach to accomplishing what you're doing is to use the G500 popup for flight plan manipulations instead of the in-dash G1000 - it's easier for me both to see and to use for flight plans. The planes I use that have the G1000 generally have a G500 popup available.
The only things posible yo do are select a letter but I can’t change letter space and I can turn on and off the selector with the center botton.

To change the active leg in the g1000 GPS and activate it, which was your original goal:
1. Click FLT button.
2. Click NRST soft button
3. Ignore the fact that its displaying nearest airports and....
4. Use the outer wheel button on the plus side and click the number of times it takes to reach the "leg" you want to activate. If its the second leg click once, the third click twice etc. If you get the wrong one which you won't know till you do step 5. just cancel, (click CLR) and scroll either way until you get to the leg you want. Notice that the display is scrolling to the next or previous Nearest Airport ICAO depending on which way you are scrolling, but what its really doing is moving down or up the list of LEGS in your flight plan.
5. Click MENU and you will be prompted to activate the leg.
6 Click Ent to accept it and that leg becomes the active leg.
Again, if the one displayed is not the leg you wanted, just click CLR and use the scroll wheel to move up and down the list again, clicking MENU again to see which leg its on until you get to the LEG you want, then Click ENT to activate it.
It worked! Thank you so much! You’re a life saver! Uncle joe thank you also so much for taking the time to help me!
Thank you both!
