Does the Windows Event log have a narrative of what is happening?
For example I was getting a side by side error on an application for FSX-SE (not FSX-SE itself though) and the Windows event log recorded the actual error.
The error message presented to the user:
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
The Windows event log entry for the above error:
Activation context generation failed for "%AppData%\Local\Temp\auto_updater.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "%AppData%\Local\Temp\auto_updater.exe" on line 19. The value "asInvoker " of attribute "level" in element "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1^requestedPrivileges" is invalid.
I passed the info onto the developer of the application who then provided a fix.
So maybe the Windows event log will have some further info in the instance of your issue?
Cheers
And this message from MSinstaller: "Product: Microsoft Flight Simulator SimConnect Client v10.0.62615.0 -- Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.42",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070002. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {98CB24AD-52FB-DB5F-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}"
Could that help?
Thanks.
A search of GOG (Good Olde Google) for,
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.42"
Gives quite a number of links to similar issues, however before trying some of the links ideas,
As a first step I would, restart the machine, login as the local administrator, try running the FSX-SE redistributables (using Run As Administrator).
The redistributables are located in the following path where ever you happen to have Steam installed (Program Files (x86) is the typical default, on mine Steam is installed to a separate SSD raid drive mounted as E: drive.
\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2005\
You'll find vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe located within, right click on each one and choose "Run As administrator".
Hopefully they will go all the way through to the end and your prob will be resolved.
Otherwise the below link may have some help for you, in particular the "run sfc /scannow" repair option, which may either fully resolve or at least clear the path to allow the redistributables to install.

Did you uninstall properly according to these official instructions?
https://dovetailgames.kayako.com/knowledgebase/article/View/78/0/how-do-i-reinstall-microsoft-flight-simulator-x-steam-edition
This is 100% essential in the first place.
BEFORE attempting to re-install you are advised to run all four DISM commands followed by sfc /scannow to ensure that your Windows 10 operating system is 100% intact.
AFTER re-installing and - BEFORE - doing anything else you - MUST - run the Verify Integrity of Game Files utility and might have to do so more than once.
If all is OK re-boot before proceeding...
This is the only known way of ensuring a clean installation before pursuing other possible remedies.
I've tried ALL the fixes I found here and on Google.
Even a clean install of my (1 day old) Windows 10 laptop.
I'm still getting the side-by-side error message:
Kan activeringscontext voor 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsx.exe' niet maken. Kan afhankelijke assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0" niet vinden.
It's in Dutch but it is the same error message.
When I search for 8.0.50608.0 all links te get a download are dead...
Any more tips?
Note that the date is 2005
When I looked to the Windows Update page, it seemed that 3 updates were unable to complete. Including a .Net update.
So I updated Win 10 manually, using the win 10 update assistant.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
The update to version 1909 succeeded,
and after that was done, I was able to install FSX SE without any problem!
Mate, it took me a day of trying everything, exactly what you described all this time ago, just like you. Then I found this discussion and tried if there was an update for windows which somehow wasnt installed, as you did in your last reply in this topic.
It worked for me too!
I knowthis discussion is kinda dead now because you found your solution, but I just wanted to thank you, as you really helped me!
Thanks bro!
Cheers.
After comparing the Visual C++ redistributable packages, the only difference was I had not installed the x86 Visual C++ 2005 redistributable package and only the x64. After installing the x86 version it worked. I also have the "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" and "Visual Studio 2013 (VC++ 12.0)" x86 and x64 versions installed. I don't know if these are also required, just FYI.
I hope this helps. Download link below.
