I'm stuck at loading screen

I just bought this game yesterday and can't play it.
WHEN I got it I installed it and tried to play it and whenever I press play it's says running but doesn't do anything.
So I tried to start it from the fsx.exe and it loads up but it's stuck at the first screen when it starts and I'm about to get a refund. Sometimes if I try to click on it it starts to say not responding.
Please help

First of all, you need to be loading the game by clicking the "Play" button from within Steam. It will then ask you if you want to allow the app to make changes (ie run as administrator); if it doesn't then you will need to re-install as admin.

Then.....BE PATIENT. This game is more than a decade old, not particularly well optimised and has to access a huge amount of information. The "Steam Edition" splashscreen will stay for at least thirty seconds, perhaps a minute and if you click the screen in that time you will get the "not responding" message. It will also, on first play, have to build the database etc though at least for that you get a visual display of progress.

From what you are describing everything is pretty much normal.

What does it look like when FSX:SE is "not running"? Does the splash screen not show up, or not go away? Does the menu show up? Can you get 100% progress to start a flight, but see only a black screen? Please be more specific.

Hey BF Bullpup I get the 100% loaded and only see a black screen. Any suggestions?

Try these in order:

1) Alt + Enter after 100% loading to exit full screen mode.

2) Uncheck DirectX 10 Preview Mode

For some reason DirectX 10 Preview Mode was already unchecked. I turned it back on and everything works fine.
