FSX:SE Stopped recognizing my controller.
So, I have been using FSX with an Xbox One controller for about a week now, and it had been working great. I started out using a micro usb cable to tether my controller, but I eventually got a wireless adapter because of the convenience. FSX was working well on both wired and wireless. Just yesterday though, I hopped on FSX and noticed that FSX would not respond to my controller anymore. I know the controller/adapter/drivers are working fine, because I can still play any other game with it. On FSX, I can't even assign buttons in the control panel anymore. I hadn't made any changes or anything, the only thing I can think of is maybe my PC updated overnight...? I'm on win10 btw.

I'm having trouble finding the post you are talking about.

If you are talking about this post:

Well that post addresses a different issue from the one I was having, in which every time the controller is disconnected while the game is open, the control settings reset. (In fact, I was having that problem too a week ago, until I followed that exact post)

The problem I am having is that FSX won't even respond to my controller or recognize it in the first place even when the controller has been connected the whole time.

If that wasn't the post you were talking about, can you please send a link to the post?

Thank you.

Same post I am sorry to say.

Is you contoller USB connection allowed to sleep or turn off for 'power saving'?

Turning off one USB won't save any power worth bothering about.

Turning the computer off rather than leaving it running 24/7 is the only way to save power.

Do it as a patriotic gesture because we are all running out of fuel World wide.

When you are flying aircraft you won't get the real feel of it using a controller.

You really should invest in a H.O.T.A.S. Joystick and (seperate) Throttle which are both permanently connected.

Then you won't have the problems which you are experiencing with your controller.

;-)

Thanks for the advice, the issue just got solved in the most random way. I was messing around with settings and my computer gave me the bluescreen of death. Rebooted, tried FSX, and now it works. I know it wasn't from rebooting because I have already done that like 3 times. I guess if it works, it works. I am defenitely considering investing in Hotas when I have more experience with flight sims. Thanks

Very good to hear.

Except for the BSOD

If you are running Windows 10 I recommend that you run the DISM commands follwed by sfc /scannow to repair your operating system and maybe prevent yet another BSOD

You probably know all these anyway.

If you do go for a USB Joystick, you may experience the same problem of it disconnecting if your USB's are configured to go into sleep mode. You may want to check this.

Don't know if this will fix it, but try verifying the integrity of your game files, then start FSX and let it re-install any files it needs to.

This seems to be a universal panacea for a multitude of issues affecting FSX SE. I run it almost daily now, but I do it as a matter of routine immediately after I install any aircraft, scenery, or other add ons.

Just started having a similar issue. Trying to use my Xbox 360 Afterglow controller as a temporrary FSX controller after my flight controlles stopped working & FSX only lets me choose between mouse yoke & mouse look but not the 'gamepad' controller. It seems to recodnize it when I go to test the controller but nothing else. It happened not long after installing the Halo collection on PC. which I think could be the root cause of the issue. I think somehow it did some weird overwrite of the controller input settings on Windows so only gamepad controllers can be used in Xbox Gamebar supported games. I cant stand using mouse yoke as that is what I use to look arround with not fly with.
