fsx hangs at 33% whilst loading terrain data

My FSX installation suddenly started hanging at 33% whilst loading terrain data and loads extremely slowly (more than 30 min) from there on. I have uninstalled Steam and FSX and re-installed on clean portable drive. Same problem occurs. I believe it started after adding scenery for FAOR to replace default FAJS. Not sure. Please advise if this is a known problem and what the repair solution might be.

It is often due to not uninstalling add-ons before uninstalling FSX which could make a mess in the Registry.

There should have been no reason for you to uninstall Steam.

This is the official Dovetail Games recommendation which I included in the link in my previous reply but it omits to say that non-Steam addons which appear in Add-Remove programs - must - be uninstalled first, otherwise the registry entries will be left behind and may prevent re-installation of these third party addons:

If you are looking for an excellent freeware program which you can install on its own without using Steam I can recommend War Thunder.

I am currently flying with a Heinkel bunker buster equipped with two very powerful cannons and a Stuka dive bomber, complete with siren, which is excellent for demolishing AA emplacements.

Very nostalgic and great sport.

Better when simulated rather than what really happened.
