Save that flight making sure to check the box to make that flight the default flight.
I know that uninstalling FSX:SE through Steam does NOT completely erase all the sim's files. For example I did a reinstall a few months ago and my pilot records were still there. The sim keeps a few files to make reinstalling easier. So the default flight is saved in a folder not in the Steam folder.
Try Googling reset default flight in FSX and hopefully you will know which folder to modify/delete to fix your problem. I don't have enough experience with this to be 100% certain.
Select the aircraft you want by hitting the "change" button under "Current aircraft". Then pick your starting airport and gate or parking spot using the "change" button under "Current position". Do the same for "Current weather" and "Current Time and Season".
At this point you have built a flight. Unless you go into flight planner and select an existing flight plan or build a new one, you still have no flight plan (or "route"). Click "Fly Now" on the lower right corner. When everything gets loaded, press the ";" key. The save flight dialog box will appear. Input a name for the flight, and then click the 'make this the default flight' checkbox at the bottom and hit the save button.
When you start FSX, it will use the settings in this flight as your default settings. Then, you can go into Multiplayer without a flight plan.
To fix this, I had to go into 'my documents,' where your saved flight plans are stored. I had to manually delete the file from there.
Apologies for any incorrect terminology, my background is all nautical, and I haven't yet mastered pilot speak.
Thanks again for your help.
