After trying every method under the sun to no avail i can confirm that this method works, i can actually play the game and view all of the cutscenes

THIS WORKS FOR WINDOWS 7 AS WELL.
Well I'll ******* be . . . I have tried to get this game working on windows 7 for around 2 years. I was seriously about to go out and get a new (old) monitor for the old windows XP PC, but I saw your post. And you finally provided me a way to play the **** game. Thank you, so much.
I finally got it working on Windows 8.1.
In short, they are very useful for all old games using ancient DX8 (among the others, also Enclave, The Settlers IV Gold and many others...)
