Running on Windows 10

(Sorry for my weird english; it's not my mother language)
So far, none of the methods provided here worked. Setting compatibility mode didn't work; neither did shortening the game's path nor launching the game without Steam client. But recently I had to download a "wrapper" to emulate old graphics cards for another game and tried to use it with AVS too, and it did the trick.

Instructions:

1. Download dgVoodoo2_xx.zip and unzip it;
   
2. Copy the dll's from MS folder into [your Steam library]\steamapps\common\A Vampyre Story\game;
   
3. Use the provided tool dgVoodooSetup.exe to configure the wrapper; under "Config folder" you have to select the same folder you put the dll's into; then you have to set parameters under "General" and "DirectX" tabs; open the provided readme.html for details;
   
4. Launch the game and enjoy it! No need to set compatibility mode, neither to shorten the path, and you can launch it from Steam client.

Windows 10 980 ti i7 skylake user here
After trying every method under the sun to no avail i can confirm that this method works, i can actually play the game and view all of the cutscenes
You dont need to edit anything just follow the instructions above

THIS WORKS FOR WINDOWS 7 AS WELL.
Well I'll ******* be . . . I have tried to get this game working on windows 7 for around 2 years. I was seriously about to go out and get a new (old) monitor for the old windows XP PC, but I saw your post. And you finally provided me a way to play the **** game. Thank you, so much.

Please notice that those are wrappers for old DirectX 7-8, not "old gfx card emulators".
In short, they are very useful for all old games using ancient DX8 (among the others, also Enclave, The Settlers IV Gold and many others...)
