Stranded Deep
Dive Gear
We can find swim fins to speed up our under water swimming.

We can find Swim Goggles to see better underwater.

The air can was good before the patch at 4+ breaths, but now it's only about 1.5 breaths.

I would like to suggest three additions.

1: A snorkel (loot and/or craft). Allows the character to take a breath when close to the surface without having to break the surface.
Crafting: paddle, duct tape, palm frond.

2: A dive tank (loot only and refillable) that, when full, would give us two or three actual minutes of underwater time before having to surface. Thirty actual minutes would be way too long for this game at the moment.

3: Air Compressor (loot and/or craft) for refilling air cans and dive tanks.
Crafting: fuel tank, carburetor, engine x2, duct tape x2, stick x4, palm frond. Fills air cans in thirty actual seconds and dive tanks in two or three actual minutes.

Of course if a rubber tube crafting item (loot only) gets put in, they can replace the palm fronds in the crafting recipes above.

Personally I think there will only be a need for actual diving tanks and air compressors if they dramatically increast the size and complexity of the wrecks. At the moment I can empty the largest wreck, the two deck boat, only having to come up for air once.

At the moment there just isn't any need to stay underwater any longer than that. The longer you are under only increases your chance of a shark finding you.

What I think would be a better option is to have a character in the game that builds up certain skills and abilities as you play. For example, the more you dive the longer you learn to hold your breath up to a realistic level. I have only dived in real life once but even now I can hold my breath 3-4 times longer than the character you play in game.

I know free divers can hold their breath for two minutes or more. I used to be able to hold my breath for an active minute and a half without distress. I could see this sticking to locations near the islands but I'd like to see something for diving the deep ocean areas where the great whites, marlins, and whales mainly live. I've seen bubblers there, but haven't gotten to them.

Besides, the air compressors could possibly be used for rifilling the air cans too.

I suppose but it is just completely unrealistic to think you can create a compressor with a few rusty car parts and soe duct tape without filling the cans with toxic car exaust fumes. What would be better, in my opinion, is for there to be a possibility to find a wreck of a boat from a diving school with a stationary unmoveable compressor on board. They could make it a wreck that only spawns crashed on an island. You would then have a place to come to refill your tanks when necessary.

It says on the wiki that the goggles and fins currently have no effects. Is this still true or are you just mentioning them because they will obviously get implemented in the future?

I think a snorkel could be cool because it would mean seeing underwater from the surface without the distortion as you said. I like that. Findable, yeah wrecks are sure to have snorkels and maybe you could make one out of bamboo or hollowed sticks.

Refillable air tanks. Sure I can see that but I think air compressor should not be a craftable item only findable. An air compressor is just not something you can make from things on a island.

One engine is fueled to drive the second which remains unpowered, hence why you only need one fuel tank. The exhaust system of the second engine is just the 'piping' to carry the air pushed out of the unpowerd piston through said exhaust system. It's crude, but it can work. It just takes some minor understanding of the how engines work and a bit of creative logic.

I'm mentioning them because they will be implimented in the future.
