Stranded Deep
Campfires and their upgrades.
As the essential “workstation” for preparing food, everyone who wants to last long is going to build one of these. In the current build, though, the upgrade path for the campfire leaves some things to be desired. I have an idea to rebalance it.

Current upgrade path: Campfire > Fire Pit > Fire Spit OR Meat Smoker.

For those who’d like a detailed idea of what everything does:

The basic campfire lets you cook meat by dragging it over the flame and holding it there. You can also attach one piece of meat to the fire to cook autonomously.

The Fire Pit, from what I can tell, increases the duration of the fire once lit. This makes it more fuel-efficient.

The Fire Spit lets you attach multiple meats, regardless of size, to the fire to cook autonomously.

The Meat Smoker is similar to the Fire Spit in that it allows you to cook multiple meats autonomously. Its intended purpose is to smoke already cooked meat to preserve it and prevent spoilage. What the game does not tell you is that the Smoker also cooks raw meat, thus making the Fire Spit irrelevant.

My suggestion is to modify the upgrade path of the Campfire into a linear progression path. Instead of having to choose between turning your Fire Pit into a Spit or a Smoker, make the Fire Spit the only upgrade for the Pit, and have the Smoker be an upgrade for the Spit.

TL;DR: Try making the fire upgrades go Campfire>Fire Pit>Fire Spit>Meat Smoker instead of having a choice between either a Spit or a Smoker since the Smoker is better than the Spit in every way.

PS: Semi-related to the topic- make the Smoker require a tarp to construct. As it currently stands, players use sticks and rope on a Fire Pit while the tarp covering that catches the smoke comes out of nowhere.
