Barrels problem

I am trying to build the base layer to my raft from barrels i got 3 so close they are touching on the beach i got lashing and my metal hammer. but no matter how i arrange them the game is claiming they are not close enough together to be used. is this a glitch or are barrels just broken right now?

yes but i cant get the white ghost print to pop up. are you saying the barrels have to be in the water before i attempt to use them?

If it's the first set of three, just hold the ghost up in the air, and create, it will drop to the ground.

Put it on it;s side to add more..

yeah i can't do what is shown in the first video at all, everyone suggestions have nothing to do with my problem. I cut the barrels free dragged them to a beach i have a raft anchored off shore and when i try to use loose barrels on the beach to build the ghost so i can go put a barrel segment on my raft. The game claims they are not close enough to me to use all 3 at once so i cant fulfill the recipe to build the damn thing. It claims i have 0 barrels on the crafting page despite being surrounded in them!
