I haven't yet built a spit because it takes so many rocks (which I am after on another island now) and because I read the spit isn't working to hold shark meat anyways so I was just going to hold off until they fixed that.
Is it bugged or you just didn't feed more sticks into it?
Guess that fix came much faster than expected :D
I don't think it was broken - you just weren't adding the sticks to restock it. Be aware that the spit won't hold shark meat right now, that *is* broken and hopefully they do fix that otherwise there's not a whole lot of motivation to built a spit unless it holds the buckets of water for you... I don't know.
Yes, and that *should* be the main motivation. But because rocks are so hard to find right now (hard to get to other islands when your raft vanishes due to other bug) most of us are just 'balancing' a crab or shark meat over the fire (not pit / spit type) where it cooks on it's own anyways... it looks silly but it works.
I have made the effort to go to two islands. The first had only 3 measly rocks, of which I needed two to replenish my tools / weapons and the third is more precious than gold to me haha. I went to another and have more rocks there so hopefully I will finally make a spit soon!
Rocks are hella precious right now, I can definitely agree on that. But to be honest.. that's why I use the rock shards for all sorts of cutting. Split one stone and you get two rock shards. One is all you need to cut down trees, break other stones, cut trunks into logs, into sticks, etc. You can use it to cut down the plants, and you can use it on your coconuts. AND IT'S U.N.L.I.M.I.T.E.D. DURABILITY. All hail the powerful rock shard!
Ah ha! ok - I did not even try using the shard by itself. If the shard takes no damage then yeah that's probably a bug they should know about.
Edit: Reloading fixed it.
im having the same issue, the light doesnt seem to go out either :/
Lighter wont work either... anyone else?
Furthermore, a bunch of fire pits all around the island is what is redundant! Because the player cannot disassemble the fire pit, add a new spit or sticks upon the campfire itself. Come on, really? This clearly was not thought through OR a clear oversight.
It's the first priority of the survival game *#&$^ food, common sense, realism. As others have said to really irritate the situation is the campfire glow (ambient) is still there with no flame.
And if the Dev's think I am going to let my finger go numb by holding down the mouse key to hold a food item over a basic campfire,..well I'll behave. Which brings me to the next obvious bug; the microwave ding ceases to chime with the basic campfire and holding a food item over it after about the third use. When the microwave ding disappears so does the usefulness of the campfire itself as it will no longer cook anything the player holds over the blazing fire.
I understand that the game is not complete, but I become sorely annoyed when the "basics" are not worked out before an "early access".
The game can not be enjoyed as is because the player has to babysit campfires, keep making campfires, how can one be rescued if their only goal is fire?
Uh, this is precisely the point of early access. If you aren't expecting bugs, glitches and other issues, then you're not doing it right.
