Concerning Firepit/Firespits
Hey guys, awesome game so far! While there have been a few lil bugs (sharks not being killed by spears, rafts dissapearing halfway, etc) it's really good considering it's in it's very first alpha patch.

Now on to the firepits/firespits. I've noticed that once you build the firespit (the third version that allows you to cook food over it) and it runs out... you can't recreate a fire there. So you still have the support/rocks/leash but the campfire/wood is gone. That's understandable. However I guess as of now it's not possible to bring in more sticks and striking it again to build a campfire in the same spot since it won't let you.

Perhaps this could be checked upon/worked on in later patches? My reason behind this is that, you already have the structure. It would seem kind of redundant of building all three versions once more in your main campsite. Of course right now this is in it's alpha stage and I'm not expecting this to be fixed or even looked at soon, but it's just a nice idea. Hopefully in the future if you have the firespit you can just bring more wood to it and rebuild the campfire right there.

You're able to add four more sticks to a simple campfire by holding the sticks in your hand and left clicking on the burnt out campfire...is this not the case with the firepit and spit versions?

I haven't yet built a spit because it takes so many rocks (which I am after on another island now) and because I read the spit isn't working to hold shark meat anyways so I was just going to hold off until they fixed that.

Is it bugged or you just didn't feed more sticks into it?

This is indeed true! And it works perfectly on the firespits. Thank you for sharing, I did not know this since I hadn't seen it on any guides so far.

Guess that fix came much faster than expected :D

I don't think it was broken - you just weren't adding the sticks to restock it. Be aware that the spit won't hold shark meat right now, that *is* broken and hopefully they do fix that otherwise there's not a whole lot of motivation to built a spit unless it holds the buckets of water for you... I don't know.

Yeah I read that in a thread. However it seems like I am unable to kill sharks now (or they me for some reason) so I won't be having any issues with that for now. As for the spits.. I guess the motivation is not having to keep holding all of the meat over the fire as they cook yourself.

Yes, and that *should* be the main motivation. But because rocks are so hard to find right now (hard to get to other islands when your raft vanishes due to other bug) most of us are just 'balancing' a crab or shark meat over the fire (not pit / spit type) where it cooks on it's own anyways... it looks silly but it works.

I have made the effort to go to two islands. The first had only 3 measly rocks, of which I needed two to replenish my tools / weapons and the third is more precious than gold to me haha. I went to another and have more rocks there so hopefully I will finally make a spit soon!

Rocks are hella precious right now, I can definitely agree on that. But to be honest.. that's why I use the rock shards for all sorts of cutting. Split one stone and you get two rock shards. One is all you need to cut down trees, break other stones, cut trunks into logs, into sticks, etc. You can use it to cut down the plants, and you can use it on your coconuts. AND IT'S U.N.L.I.M.I.T.E.D. DURABILITY. All hail the powerful rock shard!

Wait, no. I made a stone shard knife and it definitely had durability and eventually broke, as did the spear I made with the other half. Yes you get two things out of one rock, that's great - but you still have to find more rocks to keep making more tools until you find the 'modern' ones in wrecks (yay I finally found a hammer in one).

No. I mean you can /use/ the shard by itself. You dont have to make a knife. Once you cut the rock into two shards, go try and equip the shard (don't make a knife) and cut at something. You'll see it works. Also, it has no durability loss.

Knew the shard trick, but not the fire refueling one, thanks :)

Ah ha! ok - I did not even try using the shard by itself. If the shard takes no damage then yeah that's probably a bug they should know about.

I have a firespit which is fully stocked with sticks (won't take another). It is emitting light but not a flame, and food can't be cooked on it. Lighters won't work on it.
Edit: Reloading fixed it.

im having the same issue, the light doesnt seem to go out either :/

I'm having the same issue with the Firespit. Twice now Ive had the fire go out/low. When I add sticks or palm, it stil emits light, but I cant cook anything. Reloads dont seem to help.
Lighter wont work either... anyone else?

Understandable? I completely disagree and it is enough to make me abandoned the game entirely. Rocks are not useless or destroyed by a campfire and as rocks (all necessities) are hard to come by nothing should be wasted.

Furthermore, a bunch of fire pits all around the island is what is redundant! Because the player cannot disassemble the fire pit, add a new spit or sticks upon the campfire itself. Come on, really? This clearly was not thought through OR a clear oversight.

It's the first priority of the survival game *#&$^ food, common sense, realism. As others have said to really irritate the situation is the campfire glow (ambient) is still there with no flame.

And if the Dev's think I am going to let my finger go numb by holding down the mouse key to hold a food item over a basic campfire,..well I'll behave. Which brings me to the next obvious bug; the microwave ding ceases to chime with the basic campfire and holding a food item over it after about the third use. When the microwave ding disappears so does the usefulness of the campfire itself as it will no longer cook anything the player holds over the blazing fire.

I understand that the game is not complete, but I become sorely annoyed when the "basics" are not worked out before an "early access".

The game can not be enjoyed as is because the player has to babysit campfires, keep making campfires, how can one be rescued if their only goal is fire?

Uh, this is precisely the point of early access. If you aren't expecting bugs, glitches and other issues, then you're not doing it right.
