How do you use ladders?

My dear Charles can't use ladders for F**** sake...


His not very great methods for climbing down:

1. Walk (W) carefully towards the ladder and fall face first down. Loose health.

2. Ok, 1 was dumb. You crawl down a ladder in real life backwards, so... Turn around, walk backwards (S) and get stuck. Can't move any further like the ladder is a wall. Abandon idea.

3. Crouch (Ctrl+W) carefully towards the ladder. Get stuck and can't move like the ladder is a wall. Abandon idea, again.

4. Walk (W) in itty bitty tiny steps, just lightly tapping the key and move closer and closer over the "edge". Charles starts to move down a bit. Keep on doing baby steps. Fall face first down. Loose health.

5. Finally... walk (W) in itty bitty tiny steps, just lightly tapping the key and move closer and closer over the "edge". As soon as CharlesI starts to move down turn around and climb down (S).


And there's the next thing:

He grabs the ladder like it's his last straw. Down there he won't let go. Keeps on climbing up and down, no matter which direction I face.
Only thing working: turning sideways and using A or D to rip him off his beloved ladder.

What am I doing wrong? Is there any easier way? Feels like he needs half a day to get down...

I run forward and as soon as I start dropping I hit S. You should stick to the ladder at that point and from there it's the same as trees. If possible, the devs should add some logic that checks wether you're crouching over the ladder hole. If so, the game should stick you to the ladder and let you climb down.

Seems to me like the health loss is negligable, the same as jumping down 1 story. I always run down a ladder, never bothered me really.

I haven't encountered any issues with the ladders lol

All I do is jump down and in mid-air my poor guy grabs the ladder and climbs down safely, or to break an arm. I usually succeed though.
