Stranded Deep
No Health Regen
Hello, I should start off by saying, yes, I know your food and water levels have to be above 80% in order for health to regen. As I am now, I have maintained full food and water levels for 2 in game days without sleeping, as that automatically takes out 3 bars from each, and I have not even moved either. So full food and water, also no debuffs, no poison or bites or anything, nothing that would reduce my health, and my health will not rise above having no bars and my watch beeping all the dang time. Any suggestions?

Just a guess: Have you been short before drowning? That was when I could observe this effect. It should go away soon then (2 or 3 days).

Start a new game....

If you are sure you are not sick, poisoned, or bleeding... then sadly I would agree with Eedrah, sounds like a glitch, and a new game is the only thing I can think of.

To be 100%, if you have them, try using the bandage, the antibiotics, and the vitamins... the game won't let you use them if you don't need them, so if the "use" animation plays, that was likely the problem.

Well, there is usually always a reason ,but if you're sure everything is okay ,then you might have to start a new game.

I had the same issue. I originally got poisoned by one of the fish which took a long time to fix. For some reason the game generated a lot of flash lights and after half the map of searching through (mostly pointless things.) I finally found some antibiotics and fixed myself up. But four days later of keeping myself fully fed, watered and even sleeping through the night. I never saw one bar of health return from going down to nothing. After awhile I decided to go back to searching, figured maybe I needed some vitamins. Randomly saw a bar of health show up after another day. I ended up finally running into a shark again and dying... Oh well.
I wish I had more information to go on what I needed to regain health. Make rest help regenerate health, as in choosing to lay down or sit down by the fire for a break.

Yes the random generator can be evil at times, I started a game recently and there were 2 Antibiotics and a dose of Morphine in the starting biome as well as a compass. The first AB and Morphine were almost on land too, so no deep diving necessary lol.

The way to tell if you need vitamins is that you will have a persistent cough, while this on its own will not normally drop your health dramatically, it can have an effect on how quickly your health returns, and your food and water requirements. In my experience keeping your food and water bars as close to maximum as possible and sitting by the fire as immobile as possible, does tend to get the health going back up. It does sometimes seem as if nothing is happening at first, then when it gets going it’s usually a steady climb.

Some people have speculated that diving and getting the drowning noise for too long and/or while sick can stop health from regenerating for a much longer time (I am unable to confirm or deny this)

Four days though is more excessive than I have seen so far, usually a day, maybe a day and a half of resting by the fire will get it going, I don’t use the bed so I cannot say what influence that might have.

My own general rule of thumb is, unless I have picked up more than two afflictions, I get my health to at least above halfway before risking running into a shark, it does mean you have to be more patient sometimes though, which let’s face it can be a bit boring right now. The alternative and more than two statuses’ in my opinion necessitate the alternative aswell. Is to go at the problem as fast as you can, which can be a very big gamble with the random spawn being what it is.

That said it’s all a question of balancing everything as we go through alpha, so posting things like this gives a good example of what is going on right now so that things can be adjusted down the line for a better experience imho, just hopefully still challenging and not too easy :KSmiley:

Hi Cosmo and Fred, I recently purchased two copies of your game to try out at home. My sons, Wife and I all enjoy playing the game but none of us can get our health to increase no matter what we do. I initially put it down to inexperience with the gameplay and the whole family has spent many hours searching, discovering and trying out all the features of the game in an effort to get the healthbar to increase. After survivving for 14 days, being bitten by a snake and falling from a tree all on the first day, I was extra cautious in my gameplay and no further incidents occured, but my health bar would not rise, no matter how full my food, water and sleep bars were. A suggestion might be to have a secondary health meter which shows a percentage number instead of just a bar. That way, minor adjustments in health level can be observerd, even if the bars are not showing an increase?

You can send me your save file and I will check to see what is affecting your character to cause it, and edit it out if needed.
