Time Scale
So, I prefer any game I play to have more realistic time rates. In this game it feels like time passes too quickly. I am hungry and thirsty all the time even though I just filled up. Sometimes I just want to relax, explore, build stuff, etc.

Is there any ways to change how time passes to make it go slower?

hopefully there'll be an option to change the time scale at some point. but they first need to tigh events to gamehours as opposed to real time it is now...

Totally.
Like I've already said in a previous post, in-game time does not exist at all. And that explains why lighting a fire just before going to sleep will have you wake up with the fire at the exact same "health" as the night before.

Game timer is a necessity for this type of game. Also a necessity is all elements would adjust according to the game timer. Thirst and hunger, cooking and healing would all have to adjust. Can't say that the speed of your boat should change though.

i vote way slower time scale something in the order of 5 hrs equals 24hrs game play?

The 1 sec = 1 minute is actually pretty standard for games with day and night cycles. And it makes sense, when you consider how quickly the player can perform certain tasks. Like chopping down trees, constucting shelters, starting fires, and rowing between islands(despite how slow it is in game, it's slower in real life).

I like what Hinterland did with The Long Dark in terms of scaling...12 or 24 hrs, every action you perform takes a certain amount of (measurable) time etc...

One thing I would love to see in future development would be events triggered by time. For example different animals at night than during the day like turtles coming ashore at night to lay eggs that you can then steal and eat. A lot of interesting things could be done!

Agreed....as i already stated in another post, make the tiger sharks more realistic i.e. nocturnal PLZ!!!!

Maybe a variable time scale ..
1s IRL = 10s IG while you are walking, paddling, swimming, eating
1s IRL = 10min IG while doing time consuming things such as chopping trees

Like this you can have longer days, but you don't spend 2h IRL chopping trees :)

It would be not bad implenting a adjustable timescale as optional so anyone can choose how he like to play like in 7DTD

New to this game (barely got as far as a room with walls and a bed) but I have to say I find the time passing too quickly.

My days at the moment consist of...
  • Wake up
  • Run around grabbing coconuts, fishing, checking fish traps
  • Spend time preparing food (cooking / breaking open)
  • Do a once-round-the-island run looking for that one thing I need to craft something
  • Realise that it's about to be night
  • Repeat

I like to be able to take my time, plan things out, come up with a strategy. At present, all my time is spent either eating or running frantically around trying to find something.

Since time doesn't appear to stop in the crafting menu, I even find myself skimming/rushing through descriptions because I'm aware time is slipping away.

I haven't been playing long enough to give a concrete suggestion on how time should work, but as it is I'm finding it rather irritating that I can't stop, look around and enjoy my little hut.

Time and hunger is too quick for me to test the game properly LOL. I dont use mods or anything so i usually just die within 2 days, because im trying to find new bugs rather than survive.

Slow down and enjoy it. i find that it is best to work around the clock. there is no real need to sleep at this point. once you find a flashlight/torch, most things can be done at night.

Learn to fish for archer fish, as they are an easy food source and require no cooking. Coconuts are an easy fluid supply. hunting for food and such should take less that 10% of your time, once you get the hang of it. you can survive without ever cooking, if that gets to be a hassle. I never cook anymore.

sleeping actually uses more food and water than staying up and working! collect supplies and build at night. just don't try to kill a shark at night... not a good idea!

After a while the night becomes a mnor issue.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try next time. I've been sleeping because I was hoping it would help with my health issue (too long underwater and (I think) being jabbed by a lion fish) meant that the first time I checked my watch, I was on 2 bars.

(Yes, took em a while to figure out the watch)

2 years later and this post still is relevant. what a shame... I really would love to have a time scale slider as well. I don't care if the time scale as it is now makes sense to some players because of certain tasks like chopping trees is faster ingame as it is in real life as well. But one thing I can't stand in survival games is that you constantly trying to find food and water all the time. This isn't survival, this is pain! There is no fun at all to drink 6 coconuts for water and eat them, and then 5 minutes later you need to do the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing again. Give us some breather man... Give us a time scale slider, so we can decide for ourselves how fast or slow the 24h cycle should happen.
