evading sharks, paddle method
I've noticed something, not sure if it's just luck. I always stood while paddling island to island (on life boat, not built raft). Every time I traveled island to island I would get attacked, thrown off, or very close to thrown off raft.

By accident I was crouching earlyier on my raft while paddling. I didn't even notice till I saw how low I was but said what the hell, it just felt more natural then standing in a raft.

Anyways. It seems that the sharks threat level is lowered much while crouching. It takes longer for them to notice you. I was in several trips and normaly while passing a shark standing up it would have attacked me but they just swam and did what ever it is they do. Eventually after passing the sharks they would notice but much later then normal.

Aswell, when the sharks did attack, (only a few times- like 3-10 vrs 10-10 trips while standing), they would bump my raft but instead of the raft getting all tippy where you had to shift your weight in order not to get thrown off, the raft just spun a bit and all i had to do was shift viewing directions a few degrees to stay on track.

MUCH MUCH MUCH SAFER.

Not sure if this a glitch or if it was intended. It's as though standing they can see you (not the raft) quicker, and when crouching (center of balance/weight) is much much sturder. Haven't been thrown off yet doing this, and barely attacked. Just have to deal with the music of them near by occasionally.

anyone else notice this?

I've done crouched paddling as well but it makes no difference in my game. Still bumped too many times to count.

will test in mine later... thanks for potential tip

I usually always crouch while paddling, its easier to stay on it, especially when sharks attack. Marlins can still knock u off though.

Being attacked is random, like everything else. I can make 10 trips no issue, then bam!

While paddling to another island if i hear shark music i ignore it and keep paddling. It was only once a shark managed to come up along side me swim faster than my paddling and cut across in front of me.

Someone else said the crouching helped with the constant backsliding one does in the liferaft. I tried it and it did nothing...I still backslide with every paddle most of the time. Oh well, I'm using to doing the cha-cha in the liferaft by now...

Didn't notice crouching to avoid sharks more, but they tend to leave me alone most of the time anyway.

had it confirmed today.. i was in crouching position and peddling and it doesn't help with avoiding a curious shark!! but it may help with keeping balance while getting tossed around..... instead of being catapulted into the water and u see your raft drifting away towards the horizon

I still always crouch and stand in the center of the raft when a shark is near. Maybe it doesn't help, but I haven't gotten knocked out since I started doing that.

well I started using the crouch a few hours ago - a few sharks just ignored me, one guy bumped me twice but I stayed in the raft and no-one got to eat me. yay \o/ I call that a win

A few times when im travelling to another island and i hear shark music i stop and take a quick look behind me and the shark, usually a tiger but once a great white was swimming so fast to catch me, it was leaving a wake.

Most times i keep paddling hoping i can out paddle it but always expecting the nudge.

Once I get a pair of swimfins sharks don't even see me. I just swim to the next island, or do the Esc paddle glitch.

Having been left alone for ages while traversing between islands, the sharks have finally decided to revoke my permission to travel in international waters unmolested.

My health bar is currently empty from being poisoned (just found antibiotics so hoping will go up soon) thus shark music = reload 95% of the time.

They hit the raft (usually from behind as I’m paddling my ass off lol) before if I just kept going (singing a modified applicable version of the dory song) I would survive with a couple of nudges, now I feel like I’m sat on a beach ball in the middle of a shark volleyball game.

They don’t bite straight away, noooo they like to wait a few minutes (probably laughing) as they watch me almost get back to the dinghy. Then they take me on a nice tour of the ocean floor.

Normally on death I like to restart, but at the minute that would become quite..umm….yeah lol.

I think I must just be tastier than some people ;)

Also I seem to be having a weird problem with my raft now, before when paddling while crouched I had to keep pressing forward every now and then.

Now it’s become quite a challenge I’m constantly fighting with the raft so as not to just fall off.

I almost have to keep the forward button constantly pressed down, but because it’s not constantly it becomes a delicate balancing game of not throwing myself off the front off the raft or falling backwards off of the raft lol.

On that note an amusing thing happened yesterday, while paddling along fighting the’ falling off thing’ a shark spotted me and I thought great I’m done for, he came over and bumped the raft and then somehow the ‘falling off problem’ was fixed until the next island O_O
