You might have a glitched tree then. 34 days they haven't grown back for me.
And to the people that keep insisting "it wouldn't be realistic like RL if they grew back that fast!" - your statement is not consistent with the mere facts that a day/night cycle is less than an hour and potatoes and yucca grow back faster than you can blink.
There are *some* things which can be sped up and still kept in the realm of 'realism' you know... I don't see many complaining about how short the days and nights are and asking them to be real life 24 hour cycles.
But you are right, day/night cycle is short in this game and the game is something like Minecraft, where trees, grass and flora is growing quickly. And If anyone want to say, that this isn't Minecraft, than give yourself a slap...
Taken from Wikipedia:
Cocos nucifera is a large palm, growing up to 30 m (98 ft) tall, with pinnate leaves 4–6 m (13–20 ft) long, and pinnae 60–90 cm long; old leaves break away cleanly, leaving the trunk smooth. Coconuts are generally classified into two general types: tall and dwarf. On very fertile land, a tall coconut palm tree can yield up to 75 fruits per year, but more often yields less than 30, mainly due to poor cultural practices. Given proper care and growing conditions coconut palms produce their first fruit in six to ten years, it takes 15 - 20 years to reach peak production
Respawning coconuts and leaves however would be fine.
Coconuts regrowing on trees that you haven't cut down actually would be cool. Just a slow rate, please. Like a couple per day at most, or if they all grew back at once, every few days maybe. No magical potato speed.
Also ... if they did want a renewable resource option, they could always have a mechanic that washes more loose sticks and rocks to shore every once in a great while. Plus coconut/leaf growth. Enough to make it possible to not leave island, but only if one is very patient/stingy.
I say you *should* because you could very realistically replant a coconut into a seedling within a year's time. I'm already at 30+ days survived and the day / night cycle is super fast so why not allow regrowth of palms? IF you have to replant them. I've played tons of other survival games where planting trees is a fair and reasonable mechanism.
If you go on their Trello site, one of the options they might work on is farming, and fans seem to want it so it might have a higher chance of making it in....seems to have a decent number of votes. this, might be for food, but this could come to include palm trees, infact i wouldn't shoot that down at this point.
I second this. Dunno why regrowing tree's are unrealistic, when being unable to mine rocks, expecting coconuts and leaves to regrow, and instantly regrowing potato's and yucca's are just fine...
I'd like for palm tree's to be a renewable resource honestly. Forcing the player to paddle from island to island as the ONLY means to gather more sticks (and rocks, and loot) feels a tiny bit tedious... Maybe if/when a 'backpack' type item is added, allowing us to carry many more sticks from islands instead of dealing with our sliiiightly limited inventory.
But personally, I'd really enjoy a mechanic where you'd find a seed or something and replant it in soil, allowing the player to watch the tree regrow from a sapling into an adult. There can be limited seeds possibly or other idea's can be used for balance. Heck, I wouldn't mind waiting an ingame week just to see the seed grow into a sapling. Sticks would still be a valuable resource that players could sail out for, but it can still be renewable in the long run.
It seems like one of those things that's splitting the player opinions in half. On the one hand, regrowing a TREE is very different then regrowing a smaller plant, especially when the tree's give access to so much material. But on the other hand.... I'd like to plant a tree. x: It would feel more realistic to replant the tree's rather than have them pop up, and would give a rewarding feel to the player as they settle on their home island. Perhaps getting a tool to dig up the stumps and replanting the seeds in their place could be used.
*shrug*
I am really not trying to troll you, you have a fair point, and I'm on the Trello site often myself to see what the blokes are doing. I'm not voting though, I prefer to talk it out.
I just wonder what would happen if they added Zombies, just for fun. I saw many people wanting those on the forums as well. As you know, there are only upvotes... ;)
Huhh??? What the heck do zombies have to do with this game? Am I in the wrong discussion...
